So I, like many others, have heard about all the hate the default assets get but I genuinely feel like the default assets fit perfectly for the type and tone of game that I want to make and most custom assets either don’t fit with my game or aren’t plentiful enough to use throughout all my maps. I’m not good at making music or art or anything that would put my game ahead of others but I still plan to make a free trilogy using mostly default assets and hope my characters and story are enough for at least some people to play my game and enjoy it without writing it off as lazy. The point of this post is really to ask if it’s a good idea to make a game for years despite knowing it’s going to be crapped and hated on just by me actively choosing to use default assets to better fit the feel of my game and if there were any sites that weren’t as judgmental about using default assets that I could one day publish it to.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
