Making resouces for specific scripts

Would having resources like these be cool?

  • Sure, but only if it's something I'd use.

  • No, they'd take the creators focus away from things that would be more useful to everyone.

There's a number of scripts kicking around that require additional artwork beyond what's in the RTP.  Things like side battle systems, map names, menu modifications, mini games and so on.  Would making graphics for those in Re-Staff or store resources be a good idea, even if it meant you'd get less of the resources that worked out of the box?  What kind of resources would you like to see the most?  Which scripts would you consider essential?

I think it depends on the script.

If that was a script rarely used, then it would be a waste of work - but there are several scripts that are used more often and it would be nice to be able to modify them.

So my answer would be yes, but only if that script

1) is on the master script list

2) gets at least three requests with links for games that already use the script (to prevent requests from people who don't use the script yet)

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the second point.  Three requests of what posted where?

I'm sad that there's not more discussion about this.  I focus on the art aspect of game making so I don't actually know which scripts are considered "standard" to use.  I really am interested to know what ones people use the most and would like more art support for.

There are many scripts on the master script list that aren't used often - but I didn't want to make a "preferred list" based on my own assumptions.

I also expected much more discussion here, including some people posting for which scripts they would prefer artwork - and then you could have used those requests as guidelines. Any script that would get more than one or two requests would have been an acceptable canditate for improvement in my opinion...

Well, I guess if I want people to be talking I'd better start with what I'd like to see.

I prefer side battles over front facing ones, I just like seeing the main characters really.  I'd love to see more support for those.  Holder's stuff is awesome and has a lot of material but it's only one style.  I'd be willing to pay quite a bit more for a monster pack that had animation or side battlers.  Even a simple Secret of Mana style animation would be pretty cool.

I like the Animated Map Name script.  I think having a map name that matches the window skin would be pretty cool, and shouldn't be hard to make happen.  There's already some people who've made stuff for this around the forums, I'd be interested to know if it got used by anyone.

I expect supporting the Luna Engine in any way would be popular, although it may just be too customizable for it to make sense.  I don't know yet, I'm not a beta tester.  It's something I'm keeping my eye on though.

Most mini games probably aren't going to be a good idea since the best use of them is when they're customized just for your game.  Maybe some graphics for a gambling game and some colored stones that light up.  Other than that, most are going to be pretty specific to only one type of mini game.

So, that's my thoughts so far.

THe RM Coalition has been doing this for some time but why not in the restaff too?

@Animated Map Name script I made about 75+ graphics for Dekita's AMN Script (in a RM Coalition pack) this and a few other scripts mention and I have seen them around some.

Luna Engine...whenever it comes out.

Min-games. I know there has been additional fish made for Galv Fishing mini-game.

Also more Hud, menu layouts, item and equip scenes, title scenes, and ...could keep going...

Yeah, I was thinking about what the RM Coalition had done when I posted this.  I thought it was pretty cool that you did that.  It's my opinion that we'd see a lot more variety in the visual aspect of RM games if there were more graphical options to support it.  I haven't been a member of this community for very long though, so I wanted to know if other people agreed with me.  Especially the RM Coalition because you guys have actually done what I'm talking about.

Making fish isn't a bad idea, it's like making monster sprites, very useful even if you aren't using that script.  I'll have to try to keep track of those sorts of things that are generally useful but much more so if you're using one of these sorts of scripts.  If you could point out any more you could think of I would appreciate it.

Even a simple Secret of Mana style animation would be pretty cool.
Holder animated battlers work with 4 frames for each poses.

Secret of mana just for the walking animation of a hereo has 6 frames or when casting magic it has 14 frames for example.

That's not simple to do at all.

thoough, yes the ennemies seems have less frames.

I'd like to suggest HUDs and menu layouts.  I've seen very stylish examples of both of these in various threads and I don't even know where to start!

I did mean the enemies.  They use a style of animation where the boss monster is constructed in pieces and those pieces are moved around to make the animation.  The initial drawing is a little more complex because of it, but the actual animation is really easy.

To be honest, neither do I!  I've always been terrible at those.  Hopefully some brilliant layout artist will see this and start working on something. :)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
