Hi. I am trying to make a tileset. I have looked up various methods and it just isn't working. I am used to paint, but there is no graph or transparency. So I tried Photoshop. Thats even worse! Its so complicated just to do simple stuff, that I just sat there facepalming and cursing for 45 minutes trying to draw a basic sword. In photoshop you draw with a brush instead of pixel by pixel, so it doesnt come out being symmetrical or looking even close to the way you want. I looked up photoshop tutorials and they are 1-2 hours long just for a basic introduction, none of them getting straight to the point. I just want to be able to draw tiles using pixels; not a dumb brush (especially when it takes 5 steps just to change the color), but still be able to have the graph to make sure I am within the area.

I am so aggravated and lost, can anyone help?

try Paint.net, works like Paint but has more features... BTW, the RTP of Ace AFAIK is painted style, not pixel art...

Okay, I'll check it out. And im not sure exactly what that means, I just know that when it comes to the weapons which are small detailed tiles. Using a big paint brush is not going to make it look detailed at all.

Take up painting and drawing (not a joke).

A graphics tablet probably wouldn't hurt either if you're gonna use PS.

edit: OR if you'd prefer to do pixel-based assets try GraphicsGale (google it) it's designed with pixel art in mind but yeah, same issues as with paint really.

In Photoshop if you want clean pixel lines you don't use the brush tool, you use the pencil. In the later versions if you click and hold the button for the brush a sub menu will pull up and you can find the pencil there. You'll want to set your eraser to pencil mode too.

If you're going to make pixel tiles I happen to really like Pyxel Edit for making anything that goes together seamlessly like ground or walls. There's an unsupported free version you can download.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
