Manor Mouse is a horror game about four best friends being punished by fat for their misdeeds as they become trapped on an estate filled with various horrors. The ultimate goal of the game is for the characters to atone for their misdeeds via a ritual. It features several interesting concepts. First is despair and insanity. Both of which will change the dialog and reduce soul power. Despair is caused by darkness and dread. Dread is accumulated by terrible sights and experiencing fear. Discovering blood dripping down the attic stairs for example causes dread. Insanity although not fatal can cause someone to run off laughing like a crazed lunatic later returning hostile. Insanity also reduces soul power and is caused by seeing something that doesn’t bother you, but something that was better left unseen or learning something that was better off unknown. Hunger is another aspect of the characters. Food isn’t scarce by any means but there is a limited supply. If you take your sweet time the result is either death, or something far less appetizing. Another aspect of this game is that the real monsters are the four friends themselves let me explain this with a quote. “Not all monsters are villains, and not are villains are monsters. In fact, the most dangerous monsters wear the skin of man.” These four friends have made some of the worst choices in life and have affected the world in a negative way. Relationships are dynamic and can cause rifts in the four friends. The game takes place on a large estate comprise of several areas stitched together from smaller maps that feature parallax mapping. The world is quite open and the game non-linear as there is no level system and thanks to the caves that connect 4 major areas travel doesn’t take long. The game does not include combat and will instead have you avoiding hostile entities, including other survivors who have fallen into insanity. There is one major hostile entity that cannot be avoided as she is incredibly fast but she can be reasoned with through dialogue choices as she’s less of a monster then the cast. Some other game play features include chase scenes, puzzles, item synthesis, slippery tiles, and smart jump regions. Lastly the game will include at least four different endings.



Josephine (Jo for short) is a teacher who swapped her credentials with someone else’s causing that person to fail out of college and her to become the valedictorian. She is the main character of this tragic tale. An all in all is on good terms with her three friends. Serena is her current girlfriend which makes Alma jealous. However she expects Serena is cheating on her.


Serena is a renowned surgeon with an unmentionable past. She hates carter's guts to the point that she gave him a nice scar on his face back in their college days with her nails. She is torn between Josephine and Alma and she has feelings for them both. She is the first to start experiencing Paranormal Activity, which she first labels as a prank until an attempt is made on her life.


Carter is a washed up detective known to plant evidence and bribe witnesses to make sure no case goes unsolved. Originally from Brooklyn he came to England to study at Cambridge. There he met his late wife who was murdered the day before their wedding after a criminal managed to escape a conviction due to lack of evidence and witnesses. It was then that Detective Carter became the bad cop he is today.


Alma is a bold musician who steals music from other bands before they can establish copyright. Her stage name is Shock Princess as she survived being struck by lightning while performing outside. She secretly has a huge crush on Serena and would risk her own life to protect her. Despite being the greatest musician of the era, she cannot write her own music ever since she was struck by Lightning. If it was truly the lightning is not known.


Carmillia is the last cast member and plays a crucial role in the story. Whether you choose to make her an enemy, a friend, or perhaps something more is up to you. How you deal with Carmillia can have a heavy negative impact on everyone’s relationships. So be careful. Note, not much is known about her except that she’s very old and also a vampire. But for some reason she doesn’t attack humans as if they were just cattle.

Got a tiny update for everyone, but first... Screenshots.

First off is the first map of the game. Josephine's Apartment.

You might notice some of tiles are off the grid by one tile. It was made in gimp. And it was intention. Helps give the illusion of the player standing infront of it. :)

Here's a nice bloody Gameover screen.

Was originally going to be just blood spatters and text. But it snow balled as you can see.

This is the main menu.

Feeling fine are we. Give it time. Everyone's a tad bit crazy. Push them far enough and they'll snap one way or the other.

And this is the status Menu.

This may contain a relationship menu at a later date. But right now that's not necessary to complete the game.

UPDATES:
I finished implementing All the menu scripts including the Mood and Hunger Scripts (which update every frame on the map scene) I've also finished writing the script for the Mind Parameter. (it's awesome)

Also you can totally starve the party to death now if you leave the game running for 8 hours.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
