Many questions regarding VX Ace

Hello, I've been working with VX Ace for awhile, but for the most part, I've always tried to solve problems and learn how to do things on my own. However, now I realize that was silly, and it only left me at wits end, so I've decided to give in and ask for help from people who clearly know what they're doing better, and then I'll know how to do it too, so yeah... Anyways. First and foremost, name windows. Simple enough, found a couple of scripts that made it possible, however...

This is the kind of result I was expecting. Yes, I learned how to make busts, and align the text properly when making the bust on my own, but what I haven't figured out is two things.

1. Is this specific window style and name window from Princess Princess released? I have been unable to find it anywhere.

2. If it's not released, that's fine, I can always make my own windows, but more importantly, how did they get the name window to stretch like that? When I do my name window, it aligns to the left, and the bust blocks it. It has options to put it to the middle and right side, but not only are those tedious, they don't stretch out from the side like it does in Princess Princess, it just stays as a single lone box in the center.

I attached what it looks like when I put it to the left, and center. If the center one's name window stretched to the left side, behind the bust, I would be satisfied with that alone, but I don't know how to do that for the life of me. I can only hope I've explained this all clearly enough. One final question though, pertaining towards my first project I worked on while learning how to use VX Ace...

Look at the highlighted areas. Let me give a quick explanation. Basically, in this scene, Eric is walking down an endless snow path automatically, like a cutscene, and he is supposed to fall on his back and faint, as the screen fades out to black. That was my idea... But it did not execute like that at all. Rather than fall on his back, which he clearly has the sprite for, he kneels down, as shown in the by the red highlighted sprite. I guess, if I had to put this as simple as possible, how do I manually choose which version of the damaged character sprite that I want? I want him to look like the one where he's on his back, not the one where he's kneeling down. This is also imporant, not just for that one scene, but for making corpses or etc in general, and I have no idea how to do it.

Also I lied, I have one final question, how do you make a custom icon for your game? By default, any game you make has a "Dragon" icon by default, but Princess Princess has a fairy looking icon, so I know it's possible to change the icon for your game... Just wondering how.

Those are all my questions for now, thank you for your time in advanced. Sorry if the screencaps I uploaded are too big or something.

If I am not mistaken, the window used in that is a picture that is displayed on the screen, and text is written over that on a hidden window. As for the name, that may be part of the picture, or it may be drawn, I'm not sure. I believe it's part of the text written on top. As such, it's not part of any script, and is jut pictures and text boxes.

Edit: missed the other two questions, hidden in there.

For the specific character graphic, learn to use event pages. An event page can display a specific index of a character sheet, and you can lock it in that position by using direction fix (it will not change the graphic, even if interacted with). The player will have to be replaced by an event, though, since you can't change the player's graphic quite like an event's

For the second question: you need a program called resource hacker. Despite the name having 'hacker' in it, it will allow you to change the icon of the game.

good luck :)

Well I'll be damned, check it out!

And yeah, using events for that seems to be easier, since you can single them out. I should have thought of that, but that was back when I was still learning based off of someone's tutorial to RPGVX Ace. Anyways, thank you for all the help. The only problem seems to be the way the text looks now, it's obviously unaligned with the box... Severely. Hmm. I'm sure that can just be fixed by editing the script, I use Yanfly's Message System for this by the way, but I honestly have no idea how I'd go about doing this.

EDIT: Oh, I'm an idiot, I forgot the namebox I was using is used by writing on the first line of the message box and didn't realize I could continue writing on it. That apparently fixed it

Sadly it looks nowhere near as clean or professional as the Princess Princess one, but I was just slapping something together to see if your idea worked, since it sounded so plausible. Thanks again, though if you have any advice or noticed I did something, that would help. Also if you happen to have any links for a PSD that allows me to easily make my own message windows, ergo, a base if you will, I'd really appreciate that. I had to keep cropping and resizing this so much to get it to fit.

Not a problem, I wish you luck :) Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it, but also try to find the solution yourself if you can. If the built-in search feature isn't working for you (keywords too short or whatever it says to you), try using a very specific google search on this website only:

site:forums.rpgmakerweb.com *your search here*
and google will give you results from the forums only. Very useful for finding things that you can't find with the default search option.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
