Hi, we are trying to make a key item which will display the entirety of the world map on the screen when the player uses it. If anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Have it call up a common event which is a Show Picture command.

Take screenshots of your world map to have a complete graphic of it.

Save it in the Pictures folder.

Create a common event with the command "Show Picture". Then create the map item and in the "effects" box in the "Other tab" check "Common event" and select the one you created.

How would we go about taking said screenshots? Is there a function, etc. which will make a complete image of the map? B/C Our map is too large to show up in its entirety at the 1/8 view ratio, and even then parts of the maker menus, etc would appear.

You could always take a screenshot of each part and merge them in a image editing software

I think I tried that one before, but It just seemed complicated so I went on the traditional way xP

(Yeah my laziness to learn how the script works makes me do it the hard way)

I think Tsukihime's script http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/2894-map-screenshot/?hl=mapshots#entry120495 is the best.  Stable, optional extras, and seems to be compatible with most things.  It makes doing the task the OP wants a breeze.
I haven't done much with scripting yet; If I were to use this script, I would, what, just copy/paste all that into the script file?

And, it says that maps which are "too large" won't work? Ours is 488x426...is it wrong to hope that's not too big?

Just copy/paste into a new slot under 'Materials' and above 'Main'.  There is no configuring to do, unless you want it to show events or show the actors, but from what you say about your purpose for this, I don't think that applies.

Then all that you have to do is get the player onto the map you want (I sometimes just put the map as the 'Start Position' and then open up New Game), hit the F7 key, the whole mapshot is exported to a folder (which the script creates, you don't have to) called Mapshots in your game folder.  And that's it.  there is no problem about the size of your map.

Okay, I did that, and started a new game, and when I hit F7, after a moment, the following message pops up:

[ Script 'Map Screenshot' line 898:TypeError ocurred. Can't convert Bignum into String ]

Then it shuts down.

That sort of query is well beyond my scripting skill grade.  I suggest you open a new thread in the Script support section so that Tsukihime sees it.  Perhaps use a title like: Error with Tsukihime's mapshot script.  That will make it clear to her.  Include a screen shot of the actual error message in your post, and provide a link to the script download page itself so that people don't have to go hunting.  Things like that will make it all the more likely that you will get help.

Posted a help topic, and Tsukihime weighed in; said that the map size is probably the cause. So, perhaps another script would work?

Hm, so that's a bit big.

You want that Item to show the whole map right? Like you want the whole map to fit the screen instead of having to pan it?

Panning would almost be preferable if that meant we could have a more zoomed in view of the world map; but with a world that large, you really do NEED a map.

I was actually thinking of the same thing, some sort of world map is always nice to have.

I think the best thing would be zoom out your map and take a screenshot. If it is that big, even zoomed out would allow some panning.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
