So I "had" decided not to go the parallax mapping route, however Ive run into an issue which is kinda annoying, My map is 50x50 and I have only mapped it, and doing so I have add events, solely as tile holders, so that I can layer things. Now doing so, I consequently have tons of events on my map which in return is making it lag pretty badly. I have tried and use Viktor's lag script but it makes those events "shake" when walking, which I presume may be the cause of the 1024x768 resolution? No idea, but does anyone know of a way to fix lag, or something please and thank you :)

To fix lag, you need to know what causes the lag.

There are several things that can cause lag, and the anti-lag-scripts can only address some of those cases - they won't help at all if the cause is one of the other ones.

So please answer some questions:

1) How many regular events are on the map? (Lag caused by regular events can be reduced by anti-lag-scripts if they are configured correctly - from the way you describe it, you haven't configured it correctly)

2) How many and what kind of parallel processes (map event and common event) have you active? (One single badly written parallel process can cause lag, and this cannot be adressed by anti-lag-scripts, only by rewriting the parallel process)

3) What scripts do you have installed? (Some scripts like one of the lighting scripts will cause lag when used)

4) Which way did you use to increase the resolution (there are several ways, and some are known to have more problems with lag than others)

1)Regular Events- 46( they currently only hold tiles to help make the map look more natural)

2) None, I haven't even gotten into parallel processing

3)Yanfly Engine Ace, Viktor Base Engine, Viktor Multi frame, and Viktor Character Control

4) I use the High res- http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/31953-high-res-rpg-maker-project/ and combined it with Yanfly Engine to increase the size.

Try playing another RM game and see if it runs on 60 FPS or lower. Sometimes, it could just be your comp slowing down. At least, that happens to me.

Does it happen on other maps in the same project? If it does, it's likely to be a script issue or a parallel process common event issue. If it doesn't, then it's likely to be something to do with the events on the map that has the problem.

It is only this single map, and no it happens without scripts and I have no Parallel proccessing and all my events only hold images, and all set to directional fix- thats it and no lag script works either.

So NONE of your events with the images are set to parallel processing? Even if they have no event commands? Even events for animated stuff, if you have any (like smoke coming from a chimney or fire in a fireplace) don't have the trigger set to parallel processing? Do any of them have autonomous move routes?

If you copy the map to a new map and delete all the events, the lag goes away?

Would you be able to send me a copy of this map? I don't need any of the sprites or tiles or anything else from your project - just the map itself so I can look at its structure and the structure of the events.

To send just the map(s), look in the lower right corner of the map to get its id, then go to your Data folder and look for the map(s) with the appropriate ids.

I know people like to harp on parallel processes like they're the devil around here, but having ANY event on your map contributes to lag. Even if it's just a still standing picture. Having 50+ can make it lag.

So you have an empty map (only tiles), and it still jitters? It happens only with this map, or all maps?

Hey,

If your game is lagging that much then perhaps it due to the size of the maps? I'm not an expert and this is only my opinion but sizing down your maps might help reduce lag, remember, bigger is not necessarily better!

Hope I helped :)

Oh also, make sure you haven't added to many events on one map! This can cause the computer to slow down and lag...

I will be updating this post quite a bit to let everyone know what Ive tried

  • I removed high res dll and replaced it with default, still Lags/jitters
  • I removed all events from current map, still lags/jitters
  • Ive resized the map to 25x25(was 50x50) still lags/jitters
  • Further Inspection all maps jitter/lag Not just one even a No event,15x15 map will jitter

How did you remove High Res? If it's on your RTP folder, then whenever you save the game, it would reload that DLL into your project.

and it only happens for this project right? Have you tried running the game directly instead of from the steam Ace?

I've read in some threads people experiencing some lag in the steam version when sync is turned on. It might be causing you problems too. I sometimes experience lag when using Steam back then too which prompted me to do a reinstall of steam.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
