It's your fullscreen script.

When I use your map in a new game with no additional scripts, there's no jitter.

When I play your demo with all the scripts disabled there's no jitter.

When I enabled the first 5 scripts there was minimal jitter, only at the map edges, which may have something to do with Yanfly's engine changing the default window size.

When I enabled the fullscreen script and played in fullscreen, there was a little jitter. I don't see how you change between fullscreen and window mode, so I just used Alt+Enter. Every time I did that (when it came back to the game, because sometimes it'd just give me a white screen), the jitter got worse.

Disabled the fullscreen script, played again, no jitter.

Okay so I deleted that script( Apparently I was blind cause I totally forgot about that script) However for me.. it still does jitter some, now Yanfly's core engine I thought was required to use High res dll , is there an alternative to it, and even if there is I have had heard no reports from the high res thread of such issue yet =/

Start over ... disable all your scripts again, start enabling them one by one and testing until it first happens.

It may not be an issue with a single script - it may be a combination of them. If you have several that muck around with screen size or resolution, for instance, they might alias each others methods and cause unnecessary processing.

the alternative would be to call Graphics.resize(new_width,new_height) directly on a blank script. If ur only using Yanfly's ace core just to set the resolution, then it might be better to just do this

Ok so I have spent all day playing around with scripts, trying new scripts disabling all scripts etc etc .. Nothing has helped thus far, I can have every script disabled and it still will jitter( not as often and barely noticeable though) but I have figured out the worse jitter begins when I activate Yanfly core engine and Viktors Basic engine script at the same time its at least 5x worse. So I disabled Viktors base scipt and all of his others and only activate Yanfly's.. still jitters then I tried to disable Yanfly's and try Viktors still jitters.. it dosent seem to be a certain combination of scrips, it just seems that any script can set it off and make it worse.. Im am seriously lost in this battle

Hi, I was interested to find out what this 'screen jitter' issue is and happened upon your thread. It's long, please bear with me.

I downloaded your demo and tested it out. At first glance I didn't notice anything strange in your demo, but then I found a few of your tree tile holders 'jumping' at times while my character was moving. I didn't see anything odd at the map edges though.

I tried removing the Fullscreen script as Shaz suggested, but still saw the same odd movement. Removing Yanfly's Core Engine didn't help either.

After trying to remove the scripts one by one, I found it was only Victor's 'Diagonal Movement' script that caused that odd 'jumping'. After removing it, while keeping all the other scripts, I didn't see that your tile holders 'jumping' anymore.

However, instead of removing your script, maybe you can try using Neon Black's Event Jitter Fix if you don't have it yet. Place it below all your scripts and above 'Main Process'. It worked for me.

I'm using the same Victor's scripts as you plus a few more from other scripters, as well as the high-res dll.

If you're experiencing strictly lag, maybe it could be your hardware?

For comparison, I am using i5 2.5GHz, nVidia GeForce 610M, 6GB DDR3 RAM.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't, I'm interested to know if you consider 'jittering', 'lag', and 'flicker' to be same or not. Googling these terms gave me mixed results. Understanding your perception (or actual meaning) of these terms might help me look further into this issue. Thanks!

@Andar :

I hope this doesn't count as hijacking. I really need to understand if there is a difference, especially since this thread (map lag) has a link to another thread (screen jitter).

You appear to have better hardware specs than mine in every area.

In addition to the specs I mentioned, my computer is running with Windows 7 64-bit.

I have tested a demo for another person recently, and that one did have serious lag. I will try to give your demo another go later to see if there is something I missed before.

Edit :

First thing out of the way - regarding event jitter. As mentioned before, you can fix 'event' jitter by placing NeonBlack's Event Jitter Fix script below all your scripts, just above main.

Ok, I have retested your project and I came across the screen jitter that you mentioned on both fullscreen and windowed mode with Windows 7 (my old laptop) & Windows 8.1 (my friend's new laptop with the same specs as yours).

Windows 7 :

After removing the Fullscreen script, playing on windowed mode still showed the screen jitter. However, after using Alt+Enter to enter the default fullscreen, the screen did not jitter at all.

All other scripts are intact.

Parallax mapping had screen jitter too with Fullscreen script, so you can rule out that possibility to solve your problem.

So, as Shaz says, the Fullscreen script is the one causing the screen jitter.
Windows 8 :

After removing the Fullscreen script, the screen still jittered in both windowed mode and fullscreen. In fact, after removing all the scripts, the screen still jittered.

Changing the default graphic processor did not help.

Parallax mapping did not help.

As you have said, nothing helps.

Possibility - changes in Windows 8.1 API, process, etc. whatever IT specialists may call it.
If you are using using Windows 8 or 8.1, maybe you try a friend's computer which still runs with Windows 7 and see if the abovementioned is the case.

Ah, well sad enough I can not test this out quite yet as all my computers I own are 8.1 , however that can be the case as My other windows 8.1 has the same effect.

If only someone can confirm if that lag is caused by Windows 8/8.1. I don't know anyone else who is using Windows 7/8 with equivalents specs to help in the comparisons.

Negative.

Same lag on Windows 7 and Windows XP. It isn't Windwos8.

Plus I didn't knew there was such a conversation taking place here.

I shared some info I got about this issue, and it seems that it is only some PCs that have such issues.

It would be nice devs to gather all info they can about it, so contributing our system specs might help them.

I opened a thread about it, let's see what we can do together to solve the issue. :)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
