    Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if by having a massive world/town map like Pokémon, my game would lag or something similar.

Is it advisable to have many smaller maps, or has someone made something as large as Pokémon with no problems at all?

Thanks in advance for any answers

    Cheers

The problem with larger maps isn't necessarily the map size - it's the number of events you'll inevitably put onto it. As your number of active events increases, so does the potential for lag. For this reason, breaking your maps up into smaller bites is generally advisable.

@jerseyware stated exactly the main issue with big maps, the amount of events and the lag for sure

If you take a closer look at Pokémon games (at least the GBC and GBA ones I played), you will notice they use transition effects, not an actual gigantic map. You can take a similar approach to this.
