For some reason I am no longer getting the name of the map displayed when the player changes map.  I cannot say when it stopped appearing, as it might have been a while ago and I simply didn't notice until now.

This is the case even with New Game, and with no use of the event command to hide/display the map name (Event command Menu, tab 3) so it's not that I have forgotten to switch back having hidden the map name once.

I have no custom script which directly affects the map name display.

Default script Game_Map line 34 is set to 'true' - not that I have ever changed it.

Can anyone suggest other possible causes or things for me to check?

thank you.

Go onto the Scripts window, press Ctrl+Shift+F and search for "Window_MapName". You should have exactly three results; if you have any more results from that in external scripts, they are most likely the source of the problem.

If the above isn't what it is check the following:

Do the maps have a display name in their properties box still?

@Sarlecc

That was the first thing I checked.  Yes, all maps have a Display Name - and indeed they were showing until some unspecified recent time.

@kaimonkey

That looks like that's the origin of the problem.  There are 2 instances in the script Effectus.  I'd better get on to Source and have them look at it.  Thanks for the suggestion.

The 2 instances of Window_MapName in Effectus can't be causing this problem, it's something else.
Must be some script modifying Scene_Map.

Source has come up with a quick solution - turning something from true to false in Effectus.  He said it must be an incompatibility with another script.

@Hudell

Doing a global search for Scene_Map turns up a significant number of scripts, and it would be beyond my abilities to sort that one out.  I think I'm just going to have to live with a small recent enhancement in Effectus not being available in this project.

But thank you for your suggestion.

And once more, thanks to kaimonkey for putting me on the path to a solution.

Actually I was wrong when I said that it couldn't be Effectus, I accidentally searched for it on my modified version instead of the original from Source.

Not a problem.  All these suggestions are gradually extending my miserably small understanding of scripts, so nothing is wasted.
