Hi, everybody.

I am very very new here. Never have made any game before.
Have seen different tutorials for MV and been ready to try to make my first map, but I am a bit confused about map size.
I have understood that I can create a map up to 256x256 (what is not really necessary), but what part (cuantity of tiles / width and height) of my map will be shown to the player (if it will be played on mobile)?

Or, if I want to have a map exactely the same size as a mobile display and move to other locations from there, what size would it be?

Why by default it is 17 x 13? On what devices it is used?

So, not even started and already stucked, lol, because I don't know how much space can be used to place my objects.


Really hope I do post it in correct forum. Sorry, if not.
Please tell me where to ask questions for very beginners?

Hi there!

There are two different things here:
- The game resolution
- The map size

Your game screen(either on pc or mobile), will show a number of tiles related to your resolution.

By default, the game resolution is 816x624
And the tile size is 48x48.
So,
816/48 = 17
&
624/48 = 13

So your screen will show 17x13 tiles. Both on mobile and pc(as long they have the same resolution size)

If you have a map of 256x256, it is the same, your screen will only show 17x13 tiles at once. When the player moves, it will scroll and show other tiles.

the screen size determines how many tiles are visible on screen. 17x13 tiles is the tile equivalent of the default screen size, and all your maps have to be large enough to cover one full screen at minimum.
