The first area in my game are plains. You know, flat places of land and grass:

If I remember learning anything from reading about mapping, it's that empty maps are bad. Then again, so are maps cluttered with things. Plains would not transfer well in 2D map form for an RPG. At least I don't think so. When I think of plains in 2D top-down RPGs, I can't remember any.

They used world maps instead, didn't they?

I thought about just doing that instead, despite my loathing of world maps. I realize that I don't have the graphics to make everything I want fit together. For example, there are no auto-tiles using Celiana's parallax grass for water, beaches, and other miscellaneous, related things. I could use a different type of grass I suppose.

The question I bring up is, how would you deal with mapping such a plain area?

Yes, the pun was intended. If the pun was existent at all.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
