Hi guys, i'm gonna ask something. I heard converting games to another platform is forbidden right? I also heard this game "Corpse Party" series were also made by RPG Maker.. First it was a game on pc... Now there is one in PSP and etc. I wonder. Were they using a converter that was approved by RPG Maker or got permissions to convert the game to PSP? My opinions are, that they are using a converter that was not approved by EnterBrain.. Wkwkwkwkwk i don't understand Corpse Party..

From what I can tell, the *first* game was made with RPG Maker - the remakes and sequels, which were ported to other consoles, were not.

Your question seems quite reasonable, and not at all weird, though. :)

It is not exactly forbidden, but there are problems that can't be solved by the casual user.

1) The RTP elements can only be used with an official RM engine, if your game uses another engine you'll need complete custom content.

2) currently the RM engine works only for Windows, and the EULA forbits reverse-engineering for other systems.

Some game developer solved this by creating a windows-emulating wrapper around the unchanged engine to make it run on other systems - but there are cases where the RTP is used with a different engine on other systems, and that is usually illegal (to my knowledge there has been only one case ever of a licence given to use the RTP without the engine, and due to rumored problems with that deal Enterbrain doesn't give that option at the moment.

However, an official converter is currently in Alpha-stage and has been tested on one single game released a few months ago. The developer whose game was used for that alphatest reported that the converter still has problems and is not simple to use - the entire project had to be configured differently from the PC version.

I don't know how long it will take to make that converter usable, but I don't expect it to be fast. Perhaps we might see a public beta by the end of this year (yes, I know it's January only)

Note, the title of that article is misleading. The writer of the article, and the people involved (apart from Degica) really aren't in a position to make that claim.

As the one who is a bit more on the inside than most others, I can confirm that the title of that article is highly misleading.

The article also claimed "allows developers to easily and efficiently port RPG Maker games to mobile devices."

Err, nope. It has not been easy, it most certainly has not been efficiently.  The Android side is reasonably okay now, but the people doing the port are still struggling with iOS.

Everyone is doing their best, but this is actually technically extremely difficult to pull off if you want a stable end product.

Sorry, Shaz. I forgot about that.
