Hey guys, as my first project for 2017 im making a little demo of a game inspired by xenogears gameplay wise, and anime franchises like gundam or muv luv for the artistic part.

I have mostly everything figured out already, except a few things that would be really cool to add.

For example, most of the game would take place in a sort of overworld while you are traveling on the mechs like xenogears, but it would be damn great to add the ability to fly with the mechs for a limited time, so the player can get over difficult terrain or the sea, but there should also be some kind of negative about doing this. In muv luv you had enemies with near perfect anti aircraft capabilities, so something like triggering more difficult encounters or losing hp/shields apart from fuel?

If I'm required to travel those areas by the story, I'd hate as a player that doing so puts me at more risk or have negatives... Fuel is fine though.. Now if those areas are optional ones or just to hasten things, then that's fine.

you got a point, i was thinking about balancing it by giving the player the opportunity to take out those negatives in some way.

For example, maybe there are 3 ways to reach your destination, the best one is protected by anti air systems so you cant fly there, unless you take out said anti air enemies.

And maybe to do that you would need to have in your team the appropiate type of mechs/pilots which would add another layer of planning even before the "mission" or level starts.

This particular forum is not for feedback on a specific, individual project, but for more general discussion.

If you want to discuss the concept, for example as Engr. Adiktuzmiko is doing, then it can stay here.  If, however, you want specific feedback, and especially if you want to know "How do I...?" I shall have to move or merge this thread.

Could you clarify exactly what it is you are hoping for as your opening post could be interpreted in different ways.

Thanks.

Oh, its a mission based game? Then that's totally fine if it's like a challenge inside the mission

indeed, ideally you would have a sort of base of HQ like your castle in the suikoden games i suppose xD then you would be able to select different missions, with each mission taking place in its own map.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
