This is the one of the two first packs finished. This resource set contains tons of tiles for creating interiors ranging from blacksmiths, tailors, butchers, castles, houses, and more. There are also a whole bunch of character-creation pieces included as well for creating your own characters.

This is the other of the first two packs completed. It contains many sheets of tiles to build cities, towns, markets, and outdoor environments. Similar to the Interiors pack, it contains a ton of character creation pieces, as well as some animals.

What's Next?

Next up on the chopping block is the Medieval: Warfare pack. This will contain a bunch of weapons, armor, and equipment for character customization as well as some more tiles which are war-themed.

After that, there are a great many potential candidates I am choosing from - feel free to express your opinions on what you would like to see!

Here is the potential list thus far:

  • Swamps - Swamp tiles, trees, grasses, dwellings, perhaps build-your-own lizard people?
  • The Frozen North - Snow, and lots of it, and everything that thrives in it, including Yetis.
  • Deserts - Sand, and lots of it. Perhaps some Egyptian themed character pieces and tiles?
  • Dungeons and Caves - Torture devices, winding tunnels, treasure hordes, dark ritual materials stalagmites, and the creatures that dwell within the deeps.
  • The Far East - Asian-themed tiles and character creation pieces (probably more Japanese in inspiration, but some Chinese and other cultures as well, not strictly one culture).
  • The Northmen - Big, burly vikings. Tiles for building viking settlements and ships as well as character creation pieces to make your own Ragnar Lothbrok.
  • Infernus - Dark ritual chambers filled with demonic entities and evil summoners...
  • The Underdeep - Dwarves are known to live in the mountains, but fel and sinister things dwell further below, deep within the earth...
  • The Watchwood - Elven-themed character pieces and tiles to create more Elvish-styled dwellings, perhaps magical/mystical vegetation elements.

No specifically tied to any particular potential pack, there is some interest in Anthro type character bases which I can see about fitting into one of these packs, or just making them in general.

General Info:

Regarding Characters:

For those of you who are familiar with the Wild Steam pack(s), then you will have a good idea of how this is already handled. For those of you who do not know, it is quite simple. You get to build your own characters by using a base "nude" character template and then add on various clothing items, armor, weapons, etc. Thanks in a large part to Dekita for making me a special proprietary program, there are now way more animations and spritesheets available to you for your custom-made characters, including the following:

Walking

Walking diag

Running

Running diag

Collapse (animated, falling to knees)

Collapse diag

Dead (12 static dead poses)

Dead diag

Default (3 frames of animation, 4 directions, the typical RPGMaker style, though with slightly better animation than before) *I do not generally recommend using this option because it just never looks good, but it is there for those who do want it.*

Idle (animated)

Idle diag

Idle 2 (hand on hip animated)

Idle 2 diag

Kneel (animated, going down to one knee)

Kneel diag

KO (animated, being knocked out or killed, falling)

KO diag

Sitting 1 (animated)

Sitting 1 diag

Sitting 2 (animated, both sitting poses are unisex, but this one might be a bit better for female characters)

Sitting 2 diag

Sleeping (animated, slight breathing while asleep)

Sleeping diag

Animated Side-View Battle (set up for MV's side-view battle system).

29 Alternate animations for attacks, critical stances, victory stances, etc that you can put into the animated side-view battle sheet. Alternately, there is no reason why these can't be assembled into animation sheets as well and used on the map for special animations - they are all the same size.

About the Tiles:

For objects like buildings, I am focusing more on giving pre-built items and giving modular pieces to build your own buildings instead of relying on the very square auto-tile system. Auto-tiles might be good for some things, but building exteriors are generally not the best use for them. Auto-tiles will mostly be utilized for interiors, ground layers, and animated water. As such there will be more stuff for you to make your own custom environments and perhaps fewer auto-tiles.

Compared to older resources from me, you might have noticed that these resources are a fair bit more colorful and bright. There will be much less harsh outlining overall of individual objects so that scenes can be homogenous. Characters will have slight outlines to make them 'pop' from the background a bit and be more defined and easily recognizable.

Anyway, just wanted to share what was being cooked up. I am just about done with the Medieval Town and Country tiles and am going to move on to the Interior tiles very soon. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them here! Thank you kindly!

FAQs:

Will there be diagonal sprites? - Yes, definitely. There are diagonals for everything except the side-view battle stuff.

Will there be any scripts/plug-ins included? - No, I am not a scripter, but fortunately scripts/plug-ins all exist at present to utilize everything in the packs.

Will there be a character generator? - No, these are just the graphical resources - though it is very easy to drag and drop the various layers to make your own characters, honest!

Do any parts not work with other parts? - As far as I have thus far seen, all parts work with every base with the exception of gender - Male items won't work well with Female bases and vice versa, but everything within those bases work fine.

Which pack has mage-related stuff? - For items such as potions, reagents, etc, these are included in the Interiors pack. For clothing items, those will be in a forthcoming pack (remember, these are designed to be smaller packs!)

Can the materials be used for non-game media such as blogs, promotional material, etc? - Yes, I have no problems with this as long as the raw resources themselves are not being distributed.

Is there a ladder-climbing animation - Short answer is no. I tooled around with trying to make one but it was just too difficult and time-consuming so it was left out. Same with swimming, just could not figure out a good way to do it that would make it work consistently throughout all materials required.

Are there multiple skill/magic poses? - Yes, there are a couple different options for this, as well as for most other poses.

Are front view battle resources going to be included? - For monsters and animals, yes; for humans where you build your own, there are Paperdolls which could be used if you really wanted to but were not specifically designed for that.

Is there going to be an icon sheet in the same style for MV (and perhaps other system resources)? - I was not planning on it at this time (there are some great icon sets out there though already!)

Does anything work with older makers? - All of the character spritesheets will work with other makes (some scripts might be required to utilize certain animations of course). Battlers and Busts and such will most likely work but are on the larger side so might need to be scaled down. Facesets would work but also would need to be scaled down appropriately. Tiles are sized for MV, but it is really easy to scale them down to 32x32 instead of 48x48 (much easier and better than scaling 32x32 up to 48x48).

Will there be other environmental biomes, such as snow, swamps, deserts, etc? - I hope to have all of these covered in forthcoming packs.

Have a question not answered here? Ask away!

Well I must say, I'm very stoked about this.  I really enjoyed Wild Steam and Dead or Alive, especially the character pieces. I made my own character generator using Modern Algebra's Composite Graphics/ Visual Equipment script, and it really helped me make some nice characters.  It took a while to configure, but it was worth it.

The newer brighter graphics are beautiful and I just can't wait to get them and MV now.

All this sounds pretty awesome. I am so looking forward to packs 3-5, with monsters, dungeon tiles, and character pieces. I too really loved the character creation pieces included in Wild Steam. Now I'm contemplating if I should make my next project in MV with these new tiles. Time will tell, I guess.

This looks awesome! Will buy as soon as they come out.

I worry that the MV side-view system is going to be more Final Fantasy styled though (character takes two steps forward and does an animation with a icon and then animation plays on top of static enemy sprite). That type of battle style will not really do these types of resources justice imo (does not fit well with this style).

Here are a bunch of suggestions (would like to hear your opinion on these) and yes I know there is a lot (Just throwing ideas out there)

Some Pack suggestions:

Angels and Demons styled pack (WANT! WANT NOW!) (maybe include a sky temple/city and volcanic themed tilesets) (Maybe better in two separate packs)

Underwater themed pack (was incomplete in the old HF packs (imo) and would be a neat idea) (maybe even a underwater race could be here)

Forest pack (Forest towns, elves and such)

Mountain Pack  (dwarf stuff and mountainous terrain)

Class themed packs (packs that are centered around a generic class type (like wizard (towers and stuff), warrior(arenas and such) and rogue(underground lairs and the like))

Thief pack (resources for locked chests, prisons, pick pocketing animations, lock picking animations and the like)

Animation suggestions:

Pick pocketing

Lock picking

More magic casting poses (Incorporating weapons into casting poses would be cool) (there was only one in previous packs I believe)

Skill use poses for non-casters (only one in previous packs was a roar pose I think)

other suggestions:

overlays (rain, fog, torch for low lit areas, etc)

One last thing, are you considering doing special animations for certain packs (ex. flying for characters with wings) or are you sticking with one template for character creation?

I'm very eager. Still hope it'd be easy to transport monsters from the Monster Legacy pack at least. Maybe make the children from High Fantasy available, but they cannot be customized to save you that task.

If I may make a suggestion though? Do you suppose that it would be easy to make our own facial expressions? I'm guess all you have to worry about for parts are eyes and make the mouth part of the base.

I am also hoping for some parts similar to those from Wild Steam and its expansion.

There is nothing I can really do about that unfortunately - they design it the way they design it. However, I am sure someone (or multiple people) will ultimately make scripts/plug-ins that allow for deeper customization of battles and animations and what not, so I am not too worried about it. Everything is there if you wanted to assemble your own Holder-style battle sheets. The reason I am not doing including them right 'out of the box' is because there is no reason to believe that someone or anyone will make a script that will follow those exact dimensions and animation frame scheme, which would make it 100% useless. I would rather give all of the various individual animations and you can just make whatever type of sheet you need/want, and have a setup specifically for MV's style since that is what most people will probably use, at least at first.

As for your suggestions:

Angels and Demons styled pack - Always an excellent idea and will definitely keep in mind (been meaning to do one like this, but always get sidetracked with 'bigger' projects)

Underwater themed pack - Not sure if I will do this or not, it is not a high priority at any rate, though there are some cool water monsters I could make.

Forest pack - Elves and such would deserve their own pack, an excellent suggestion.

Mountain Pack  - Ditto

Class themed packs - The packs I outlined in the main post pretty much cover most/all of this.

As for animations, I am still in the process of building out the animations I am going to include in general, but there very well may be 'specialty' poses/animations for certain packs that are build with that pack and its contents in mind. That would mean that the clothing in an older pack will work on most of the animations/poses but not for the specialty ones, as I do not plan on re-creating everything retroactively, and there is too much niche stuff for them to be made for all animations and poses, so I will see as I go. This might mean that in a modern survival horror pack (something I been wanting to do), there will be gun-firing combat animations in addition to all the other basic animations listed above. Clothing in the modern survival pack will work with these gun-firing animations. Medieval armor from the medieval packs however, will not.

Overlays are easy enough to include (fog, torch light, etc).

@SpellcraftQuill - The monsters from the Monster Legacy pack will work, though their sizes might be off in comparison to the larger tiles/characters (this will depend widely on the monster). There will be more/new/remastered monster in the packs.  For faces, it will be very similar to the Wild Steam packs.

When I heard you had moved over to Sci-Fi after building the new animation system in Wild Steam, I was worried there wouldn't be much content available for a standard fantasy RPG. It seemed like all of the medieval stuff had been shelved.

So it's good to see you're still working on this. The buildings, in particular, look really good. Can't wait to take a shot at using these when MV drops!

The new tiles are looking nice...

Some random realizations

After reading thru your post and looking at the screenshots, I now realize why the character models in DotA 2 blend so well with the terrain that I have problem seeing them sometimes. They lack borders... XD

@AwesomeCool

Unless there is a deeply obscure connection between these screen shots for tiles and your phone, your post is pretty spammy.

Please stay on topic

Where did I mention my (or any other) phone at all?

The last post I made was me expressing my excitement (how jealous I was not to have access to such awesome resources right now).

If it was a deleted post, please tell me what it said (I have had a few other accounts on different websites/programs hacked recently and would like to know if this account has been effected also).

Back on Topic, I noticed that in the latest screenshot the crossbow on the chimney does not fit well with everything else at all (could be just me idk).

(Still insanely jelly that I cannot buy these awesome resources yet)

This

Scouter is a power level measurer application for Jelly Bean.  Jelly Bean is the name of one version of the Android OS.

Telling us the power level on your phone (over 9000, apparently) does not have an instantly apparent connection with these screenshots.

...is this seriously real? O.O

I was using a Dragon Ball Z meme.  I have never heard of such a thing (though a phone with a power level of 9000 would be to strong for me to control and would beat me up for being so inferior to it).

Wait!?  I never said power level!  And Jelly is a common term for Jealous.

Nor did I say Bean.

I am either missing something or need to get my tin foil hat out (as something that requires very deep thought and many theories to form about it that will not make sense at all).

This thread is not the place to argue about this point, as it seriously derails its purpose.

And you are indeed missing something.  If you cannot see the connection between the use of 'scouter', 'jelly level' and 'phone' you are less tech savvy than I had thought.

Irrespective of whether it is phone related or not, your original post does not have an obvious bearing on the thread.

As I am sure you are aware from extensive experience, arguing with a mod is best done via pm, not in someone else's thread.

All of that looks and sounds awesome.

Though, out of curiosity, are you planning animals and monsters to have diagonal sprite sheets?

Something I realized: You didn't mention nobility/aristocracy in the first two packs. Do you intend to include them as well?

I second SpellcraftQuils question.

You cannot have a game without a rich snob (kings and such). :p

Or will it just be part of the first pack instead of a separate pack?
