Basically, I'm making a story-based game and in said game, we encounter objects that give our characters flashbacks. I'd love for the characters to be able to get "Memory shards/crystals" after they're over with the flashback and the player can "use" the memory shard to relive the flashback at any given moment
all i really want is for you to help me find a way to do something like,,,,
inventory -> use crystal ->teleports to map -> teleports back to the place you used the crystal
Or would it be too complicated and I should just scratch that idea? I'm a beginner and it's my first game and i have no idea how to code...

First of all, I like the idea, it's nice to have an easy way to access the information you gathered throughout your game, and in a story-based game it can be quite useful to put the pieces together.

Now, it is possible, yes. You can store the map ID and your player's X and Y position in that map before teleporting to another map. Then you can use that information to go back to the same place.
However, a normal teleportation will not work like a cutscene. Things like NPCs that were following you on the original will be teleported back to their starting positions when you get out of the pseudo-cutscene, and events that were previously temporarily deleted will be brought back. You'll probably have to keep track of a few things too, like switches and action orders...

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
