Hello there!

I'm an RPG Maker beginner and I spent over 80 hours trying to create the foundation of the game I always wanted to play myself, but was never able to have such a chance.

It's gameplay and various ambitious attempts I tried to introduce keep making me unsure - is this something people would like to play? I don't want to invest another 40 hours into making a demo or 400 hours into making a game, which would later on be completely ignored, remembered as mediocre or sold in 10 copies or sth like that.

A couple of ideas I wanted to represent in my game are:

* Focus the game on a story,

* Avoid pointless walking - game may be short, if it does not HAVE TO be longer,

* Avoid pointless battles (every fight has to have an impact on the plot, no grind),

* Make NPC-s important and conversations with them - complicated and requiring sacrifices,

* Provide a lot of choices.

I don't know if I have talent to do all this and I wanted to ask you to watch the video showing both the gameplay and my commentary. I will be more than happy to discuss it's content and I think it will serve you way better than a bunch of screenshots or pointless promises.

It is not a generic RPG Maker game... Or is it? Maybe you will judge better than me.

I really, really need your voices if I am ever going to proceed my attempts.

Thank you so much for reading my topic.

Hey this looks like a great start! Your battle system is quite creative. It is like a combat version of an interactive novel. Actually, from your description it is somewhat like solving a mystery. First you must gather clues on how to defeat a monster, and then you must use logic to deduce the correct way to fight. It seems that the majority of your workload will be on writing.

Best of luck luck with your project!

Thank you so much for sharing with me your thoughts! It means A LOT to me.

I will wait if maybe anyone else will comment this video until I decide if I want to carry on working with a demo.

*clap, clap, clap*

If you forfeit this game, I won't forgive you ! :p

It's got the rare ingredients a small, dark fantasy game needs, I seriously want to see how you're going to cook them.

I've fixed a couple of things, but I still need to decide if I want to move this project forward. Maybe someone else will help me with a comment.

As you can see I keep making this game one step at a time - one location after another, and I have to finish all the current events, before I feel comfortable starting something else. It means if the project will be alive, I'll have a demo available long before the full version.

This looks amazing. I hope you can keep up this same sort of dialogue throughout the game, because that conversation with the stable dude was insanely deep and involved, moreso than most games, even triple-A ones. Keep up the good work and stay motivated!

I enjoy this type of RPG's, I highly prefer rich story-building (even at the cost of game length) rather than filling the game with countless random battles only for the sake of prolonging gameplay. It will take long time but just so you know, there is an audience which enjoys this type of games so keep making it.

Its looking great so far. You might want to check the spellings a bit, even in the video some of the spelling and grammar is a little off.  If you have so much detail in everything it will be amazing. Great start

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
