for simple cases, you'll use events to create a top level of decorations.

If you want something that requires more than three map levels or that requires placement outside the regular map grid, you'll have to use parallac and overlay mapping - those are advanced mapping techniques that use an image program instead of the editor to create the backgrounds and light/shadow overlays for games.

The blood-written messages on walls can be done as decorative tiles or even character sets and then added to the map. It's pretty easy actually. Heck, even a light coming from a window can also be done as a character sprite and placed on the map as an event. There's a lot of stuff can be done this way.

Edit: Not only that, but because they're placed as events, you can do all sorts of things with this for the horror effect. For example you could make the blood-written message appear after a certain switch has been activated.

I don't see what's confusing about it. Do you know how to create events? How to edit tiles? That's all you'd need to do what Andar and Matseb2611 are suggesting. Well, that and the art, but we all assume you've got that covered since you're trying to figure out how to implement it. If you don't know how to do those things then you're not ready to make your game yet, you need to learn the program first.

If you have the art already, then all it requires is eventing. You can either add it as a decorative tile or as a character sprite (wouldn't make too much difference in this case). Here:

As a decorative tile:

1. Import the file into the Tilesets folder via Resource Manager (or F10)

2. Go to Database and select Tilesets tab

3. Create a new tileset slot on the left or use the existing and assign the newly imported picture to one of the B-E slots

4. When you create a new map, make sure to select that tileset in the properties options

5. Either "paint" the blood-written words on the map or insert is as an event

As a character spritesheet:

1. Import the file into the Characters folder via Resource Manager (or F10)

2. Create an event on the map and select the newly imported character sprite

With both of those methods the picture you're importing will need to be aligned properly. It is harder to do so with a character spritesheet as the RPG maker requires that they are done in a 3x4 format.

1. Don't touch the A tiles, or even B if you don't know what you're doing.

2. Everything is set in database (F9), use empty slots whenever possible. Try not to touch the default materials.

3. Spend time to look for materials on the internet with png format (transparent background) and use them, I think there's an area in the forum with a bunch of resorces designed by other users.

4. Spend time to learn how to use Image editting software to make a simple picture by yourself, otherwise, read these

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
