I often see games with Metacritics entries on Steam, but I never got any review from my games there.

I wonder how this system works, and if it can affect the sales of a game?

Anyone can explain it for me, or give any hint?

Metacritic only supports review scores from press reviews. Things like youtube and blogs (unless they are of a certain size like Jim Sterlings) don't count.

So indies, in most cases, doesn't even stand a chance to get a Metacritic score, unless they have some "acquaintances", or gets really lucky?

Indies can certainly make it, but yes, you pretty much need mainstream press exposure.
