Hi guys. I've been 'writing' my game in novel format. And I encountered a part where a mini game should take place. It's an important thing and the outcome of this game will affect the story. I've evented it partly and omg I can't handle such complexity (but I want to complete the rest of it) It's a sort of party game played in Bangladesh mostly by youngsters. I don't know if this game is played anywhere else or what it's called in English. The thing is, the game depends largely on luck. And I thought why not ask here, what you guys think? Because I'm not sure if it's fair to include a game that will depend on actual luck.

Yeah, anything that depends primarily on RNG and luck to win is going to annoy players, especially if it will influence the rest of the story. This is even more true if the outcome can be "good ending vs bad ending." I'd reconsider using that if I were you.

It won't decide the ultimate ending but just a part of it. I mean, there will be consequences. I've played many games where the most important choices decide the very ending. I wanted to change tge course of the game slowly... from the middle and not at the end.

I am having 3 Mingames in 'Back To the Overworld':

  • 1. depend completely on luck: It's one I created and evented myself, where the player and the NPC would cast a random element spell. After that a prophecy would reveal and depending on the the player's Karma would increase or decrease. It can end up positive or negative. The player will win if it's positive in the end.
  • 2. depend on luck but also abit on strategy: Mjshi's Progressive Prize Pick (https://mjshi.weebly.com/mv-progressive-prize-pick.html)
  • 3. depend on skill: Mjshi's Chain Commands (https://mjshi.weebly.com/mv-chain-commands.html)
Those Minigames would just reward with gold or items, but not having influence on the story self.
If they would influence the story, then I'd rather not make them luck-based, as the player might be getting bored during trying to continue the story (or read some alternative endings etc).

@Henryetha Ooh those two plugins might be useful.
I've thought about it and it really does feel unfair. Will make some changes here and there so that it doesn't depend on luck wholly.
Thank you for your opinions!

Excuse me? This is by no means meant as an advertisement and apparently the OP found it helpful.
The links go to the plugin creator, NOT my game =_=

@Henryetha My mistake, I misread the links on my phone. Sorry about that.
On a different note, in that case, please remember that this section is not about implementation, i.e. which plugins to use, as this is meant to be a section looking at issues in a broad sense and should be engine neutral. That belongs in the support forum for the engine being used.

He mad, but he cute :kaopride:

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
