Glad the bucket tool stuff helped! Sai's bucket tool is one of my favourite things about the program~

The outstretched arm on the newest drawing looks great, though the raised one could still use some work. The thing that jumps out the most though is that he's got his thumb tucked inside of his fingers on the fist hand, typically people will have their thumb outside and over their fingers. I love that hair design! It's really charming~ All your designs are really charming - I think I said that already haha

It's nice to see you playing with shading~ I think you should try to push it a bit further, add another less blended shade to some areas to really give depth. I'm glad to see your so enthusiastic to learn; keep it up :>

This... took... hours.

This was really fun to make, but whoa. This could be the most I've spent on a drawing.

I just realized I made the robe too loose at the neck x^x

Well this is a fine girly boy if I've ever seen one.

Information:

This is Magnolis Clevaret (affectionately referred to as 'Mags' or 'Nolis'), named after the magnolia.

He uses dark and light magic, but has limited access to light magic. He's actually teaching himself light magic,

because he doesnt like the effects of using dark magic on others.

  • Using dark magic excessively or getting effected by dark magic excessively will cause slow corruption and insanity.
  • Lower leveled dark magic has a way lower chance of having these side effects that higher leveled ones.
He will never use any energy/health stealing moves and only uses low level dark magic that just requires energy from the... evilworld... or netherworld... another name for the 'evil place'?

I actually originally made him as a Fire Emblem OC(hence the little sprite), but he's becoming his own thing.

You're getting better. :)

Next time try to make the eyes a bit more center to the head. This time, they're just a bit low. If you look at your own head, you'll see. The eyes are actually dead-center (middle) at the head. Even in anime, this is true.

I got nothing for the hands, because those are my biggest struggle. :p

Tell me... do you use construction lines when you draw?  Different artists have different methods, but those are a big help.

Also, many visual artists here like to stream themselves working. (Nio Kasgami and Paladinthug are two off the top of my head) I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving a tip or two out if you asked 'em.  (Just try not to do it too much!)

Wait, construction lines? Do you mean like the guidelines that separate

each thing you need to draw, like: "eyes go between these guidelines, nose goes between these"?

In that case, no...

Actually I forgot about guidelines until just now :x

Quick thing I made while I was at school, remade digitally:

Vern(on the left) went through a bit more than a redesign, actually... and his pose is slightly out of character but thats besides the point.

Havent started guidelines yet, but soon!

Aw man, I've been sick l~l

I'm gonna post this today, just a traditional style idea for a character I'm planning.

Heyy, I tried to use guidelines, but it... probably isnt that noticeable.

Also, I've been drawing too many (while... girly looking) guys. Next drawing will have a lady, hopefully :>

------

This is Leif Antaeus, and I have small facts that I made up while drawing him:

  • Can play the piccolo and violin. Not as good at the violin and carries his piccolo case around as often as he can.
  • Naturally has a slightly 'weary' look... Because he usually is tired or lazy.
  • Is a fan of sweaters and long sleeved things, especially when they cover most of his hands. Probably because it's comfortable and he can sleep more (in the middle of class).
  • Wears shorts to sleep in, even in the winter.
  • Sometimes referred to as 'kid' by his best friend. Neither of them know why, but it just happened.
  • Short.
  • *ahem* ...I mean he's under 6 feet tall.

This was more of a shading practice than anything *ahem* for example anatomy.

The outfit, especially the skirt, blended too much now that I'm looking again.

  • Named her Hiri(Hear-ee), but I'm not sure if Hiri will be her nickname or real name.
  • She's 1 of 2 closest friends with the previous guy I drew.
  • Is in her school's martial arts club and specifically practices Xing Yi Quan, herself.
  • This outfit design is still a work in progress, but I've got her martial arts outfit finalized.

I'm a fan of learning cel shading before attempting blended shading myself. Blended looks better but is easier to fall into bad habits and make mistakes with.

I might be strange, but I personally like cel shading better... it just looks so much cooler IMHO

I personally prefer cel shading too, but it's less labor intensive so it's considered by many to be cheaper and less desirable. Most things have moved away from it to either all soft shading or a hybrid method where only the edges of the shadows are soft but it still has limited shading steps. To be honest, the hybrid look is my favorite.

Whooo, it's been a while.

Here's a WIP of an tiny mix of 3 frames made into an "animation".

I made an odd choice, with a sauna of all things... I guess I'm getting good practice.

Well, here's the first animation I've basically ever made.

That's really charming~

There's still some more focus needed to be done on arms and legs (especially where they bend at the elbow and knees) but I love how poofy and humid their hair looks. The background uses simple shapes very effectively as well.

not bad for the animation this seem a little clumpy but this not bad !

for the eye this coul be easy you can spare the eye animation in three frames

if I explain

(totaly open) - (half open) (totaly close)

this will create if you put the good speed a good animation effect and you need to not provoke a pause while the eye do a animation

also when you do animation think about a small ball who bounce

think after how many frame you think they will need for move enough smoothly to the point A to the point B

actualy for the arms three or four frames are necesarry for move somewhat smooth.

Also  for each basic animation like eyes or mouth always think about minimum 3 frames two frames is to much direct and will make the animation "Jump" instead of "Slide" who are not good because jumps into animation should be use in my opinion in ultra fast move and no in slow move

I spent the whole day doing pixel art.

But it was really fun, actually.

First:

I thought about making 'simple' battle sprites, with 1 frame per... action.

In order: Idle, Hit, LowHP.

I kinda like it, since I didnt want the battle scene to look complicated.

Second:

I need help on skin shading. It looks very weird to me...

The main character for a game I'm going to have to make a lot of custom graphics for...

Because the events are made in sidescroller format(aka i gotta make tiles). Normal dungeon/town exploration has default view.

@Nio

I'll be honest... I planned for three frames, but the ponytail got difficult to animate without looking weird and I, uh, gave up.

3 frames may(will) end up looking better, so I'm gonna try again another day. Maybe make the battler smaller.

@Iron

Today I really felt like doing some pixel art :v . I dont have a schedule, but usually a few hours on weekends.

Actually the only one I did completely today was the first one. All of that was made in... some hours. I didnt keep track.

The second one, I just completed the shading I did a while ago and animated.

seriously I suggest you to download sai animation assistant and to pratice your animation into sai

but

don't bother on the shape begin with a simple balls who bounce for understand how to manipulate the animation and since you have 3 animation  in pixel art you should take this as a a exemple

for the ponytail :

first frame :

no move original position

second frame :

2 or 1 pixels of distance from the original position

third frame :

4 or 3 frames of distance from the original position

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
