I downloaded sai animation assistant and it made testing a lot quicker. Thanks Nio  :thumbsup-right:

When I first flipped him, I did the: "Take current art and flip horizontally" approach, it looked too weird.

I think it was just the hair though, cause obviously hair itself doesnt flip when you turn left or right.

So I edited this guy's "facing right" sprite and it looks goood to me.

I think I need to fix the shading on the pants still.

I never introduced this guy did I? Talon Alder. He's the patisserie of his family business.
Those drawings of him were made weeks ago, to be honest. They still looked good to me.

The three drawings on the left were all done today+yesterday though:
Hirian's redesign. Not tooo much, she got one ponytail instead of two. New outfit.
Leif plays the violin, though he prefers the piccolo or flute. Also changed his last name cause why not?
And a mystery new character in the corner.

Not happy with how the guy on the left's hair turned out today. I made a better version of it yesterday x-x

Anyway, Nagi and Renga are new here, but old characters who got craaaaazy redesigns.

Neither of their new designs are final, though.

Theyre also brother+sister, random fact.

yeahhhh... Nagi's male. A lot of male characters I draw end up girl-ish in some way.  ;l_l

Two more new characters to the thread:





Citrine and Schneide.

I got a lot of inspiration from the disgaea series and how they make faces. Specifically how they all look to the right, but at different angles.

Fun fact, Schneide is Nagi's little brother.

Both designs are very cute. ( I especially love Citrine's hat~ and the colour of Schneide's hair matches really nice with skin tone and eye colour)

Both of their necks seem very long though. I think it should be more apparent that their shoulders are about to start soon. ((Or put some collar for their clothing there))

I changed Citrine's expression. She's generally happy and since i plan on focusing more on sprites than faces,

characters will only have one face to show. Actually, it may be 2-3 for the more drastic situations.

Citrine's was easy to make, I finished it yesterday... on the other hand... ;-;



Schneide was one hell of a battle. I started his yesterday but i ended up giving it up for tomorrow(today).

I made the shoulders at like 20 different angles and they all looked weird.

This was the best result. :thumbsup-right:

Also, full body references I made about a week ago.

I'm in the middle of remaking an old character, never posted here, but was used as my icon for a short time -v-

Doesnt look too different so far... I'm still putting that asteroid belt around the neck, dont worry.

Io Altair, previously named Aren, which i had made up on the spot. This name has to do with... astrology, because Io is a "Star Guardian"

(Io- The innermost of the four Galilean moons of the planet Jupiter)

(Altair - The brightest star in the constellation Aquila and the twelfth brightest star in the night sky)

Do i know what a Galilean moon or the constellation Aquila is?

...no... ill research later.

Backpack seems fine to me, though I think it's offset to the right too much, at the angle he's standing at it'll be mostly behind him no matter how thick it is.

Alright... I think i moved the backpack in enough.

So i recently found out about this website called pixel joint with their weekly challenges.

I decided to join on the last day for this week.

The theme is supposed to be "and then suddenly, something bad is going to happen"

With only 16 colors maximum, it was a bit of a struggle ;n; I counted the black outline as a color, as well as the ghost.



One, lonely tombstones are never good.

And two, theres a ghost. Ooooo

Originally, I had a lot of ideas for my game, all these fancy sprites that had different poses and digital bust ups...

Now i'm planning on doing pixel faces and small, simple sprites. I feel like this could take a lot off of my shoulders in the long run and help me focus more on the story instead of graphics. Even with a simpler route, I want them to look good >v<



Also, I had an idea mid-expression and make the right sides outline bigger. How is it?

Also also, open mouth pixel people are difficult :x

I think if you're going to do a varied outline you should do it purposefully and not just shift the silhouette.  The way you have it now flattens everything out so he looks a bit like a paper cutout that's casting a shadow.

I like this character, he looks fun.  I agree that you should keep your workload simple.  You can always add more stuff in after you're done if you've still got stamina for it.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
