I have been workin on a game heavily inspired by the game Yume Nikki (if you don't know what it is, read this and do yourself a favor and download it).
I tried to keep what was fun in YN and improve on what was less fun, like walking in a straight line for 5 minutes.
So, i recently finished it, and I thought I'd share it with the fine people of RPGMakerWeb.
Also, I tried to add my own flavour, and it is by no means a carbon copy.
There are short story segments, for example, and there are no effects to be found. Instead i added a few puzzles and challenges.

Short story introduction
In Miserere you explore the dreams of a lonely space station occupant.
The unnamed occupant have been on this station for years, all alone.
Needless to say, this has taken its toll on our poor protagonists mind. This occasionally shows in the dreams.

Gameplay
The game relies heavily on atmosphere and mood to keep the player interested.
You explore the mind of our protagonist via 4 possible pathways, which branch out, when you enter the dreamworld.
The main focus lies in exploration and uncovering the past of the protagonist.
There are a few puzzles among the way, which are usually not too hard.

Thank you
A special thank you to Papasan96, who have been proofreading the game.
Also a special thank you to Epitonic, which I got most of my music from.

Screenshots
Next, the thing which probably will decide if you, the one reading this, will be playing it.

The nexus, from here you can go in 4 directions and start exploring.

A old building, which leaks from the roof and walls during rainstorms.

Quite the crowd

A snowy mountain.

Aliens.

So Yume Nikki: IN SPACE! ?

Edit: And as a fan of Yume Nikki, once I get home, I will definitely give this bad boy a test run :p

RMMV
I played about thirty-minutes of it!

I like what you're doing, but at the same time I have trouble reading the text (especially when there's a lighter background (a potential fix for this would be have a dedicated background for the messages instead of just a border)) and at times I can't see very well on the map (even though my brightness is maxed). Though despite not being able to see well at times, you created the atmosphere very well! Though I can see there's a lot of clashing styles in your maps, I think it works really well here. It has more of a surreal feel to it than "omg these graphics don't mesh well together at all". So you did a really good job so far with that!

So, in short, I like it so far. I'll play more at a later date and when I finish (there is an ending (or like an end point where I know it'll be the end) right?) I'll give you more thoughts!

Edit: Oh, now I recall why this looks familiar. I was following it on yume nikki fangame image board. I can't wait to find the silent hill looking places. I hope those are still in the game.

@Ronove

I certainly wasn't expecting to find another person that frequents "that" board. Can't say it's been very active lately,

there's like 3 posts a week.

So to answer your questions, yeah it's completed so there is a ending.

And yes those areas are still in the game.

I'll be looking forward to your thoughts!

@Link

Yeah if you want to put it really shortly and bluntly, I guess that's how you would describe it, heh.

Final release of Miserere done. No new content will be released, ever. Bugs should be gone, mostly.

Download in main post.

I've wanted to comment on this for a long time, but only recently I joined the forums.

I. Love. This.

The suspence and the horror-aspect are amazing. They had a real impact on me and I was instantly hooked. I've played it all the way to the finish and I must say that the whole backstory of the protagonist is... interesting.

Thanks. Been a while since I finished this, but it's still getting more downloads than all my other games.

Woah, only three likes? I'll fix that!

Anyway, I played your game. Excellent. Everything about it was interesting, engaging, fun; just a great game! I love how all four sections of dream world tie into each other instead of being completely separate. I also enjoyed how this game doesn't really present you with a purpose or a reason to keep playing, but the anticipation of coming events and the unpredictability of everything keeps you going. The atmosphere was so original, everything about it was so disturbing, and yet so subtle, it really seems like an actual dream. I'm glad that there aren't any battles; battles would've ruined this game. Overall, considering the genre and purpose you were going for, I give you a 10/10. I honestly do think that this could be in the PC games isle in target.

I will take the PC games isle comment as a compliment and not think about having to share space with "Barbie Groom and Glam Pups".

Well yeah, but there are some good games buried in there too, like Spore, some of those hidden object games are pretty good, Sim, the Civilization series......that's about it, but it's a public place and people pay money for stuff there.......

It's just that the fact that you have to pay for something doesn't automatically make it better. It was just a little joke, since I am so bad at taking compliments.

Anyway, glad you liked the game. 10/10, dude, that is some pretty high score there. Really, thanks.

Indeed it is xD, but you're right. I've seen thousands of free games that are EPIC and way more must-pay games that make you wonder why are we even alive.... *shivers*. Anyway, I haven't heard of you in a while, any new projects going own?

Funny you should ask. My new project Reap and Sow should be up in the Early Project Feedback forum in a day or two. Go check it out.

Not much. It wasn't very popular, and to be honest I wasn't enjoying making it anymore anyway, so it's probably not going to be finished. Maybe I'll feel like it in a year or two, but I wouldn't count on it.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
