Missing RGSS3.dll ?

Ok, so I've got another obscure bug that a single customer is having trouble with. When he tries to launch the game, he received an error that he describes as:

"ok so apparently i need this .dll to play this game (rgss3a.dll). does anyone know where i can download this file?"

"Ive reinstalled numerous times and tried to verify local cache. no luck. Just to be sure. I was looking at the ini file and its appears to me it's looking for c:\windows\system\rgss3a which i do not have. is this correct?"

So... any thoughts on this? I've never heard of a rendered build of a game requesting a common file located in windows/system. I don't even have the file myself.

Maybe they are trolling you or just remembering wrong?


I'm not aware of any viruses that are made to target RPG Maker games.


I suspect that it might be issue with high-resolution DLL if you chose to use it.

Yeah, this is really weird.. Maybe the high resolution as Clord said. Only if you have it..

Could you check your ini file? the Library line should be System\RGSS301.dll unless you changed it, in which case it should be the same as the DLL in the system folder of your game...

Please ask him for a screenshot of the error message.
There have been a lot of cases where users reported a slightly different error due to omitting or wrong understanding of the error message, and nothing we try to do will help unless we can identify the correct error.

Phoenix Rossy is author of Data Hacker series. I backed his project, so I'm sure that he uses high-resolution DLL.

My game.ini does indeed say "Library=System\RGSS301.dll"

I do use the high-res DLL, so maybe it is an issue with that. However, nobody else is experiencing anything even remotely similar. I'll ask him to screenshot the error.

I have suggested that he install the trial version of ace - this includes the runtime package and common files. Maybe it'll alleviate his problem?
