Hi, All.
I create this thread in hope that everyone who find a mistake in MV Help manual can give a report. Because manual is an important gate for new people accessing feature in RPG Maker MV.

So far the following thing is a mistake that I found in manual:

1. Wrong format for sv_actor battler
The manual said that the first three frame (most top left) as a step forward motion which actually it is a normal standing motion ( I noticed it because I arranged a sheet of sprite exactly as mentioned by manual, but found that the animation frame is misplaced.

2. The Help file shows a yen symbol in numerous places when slash like this \  is what ought to be shown. (thanks: Jay_Nola)

The issue is caused by the Meiryo font being used in the Help file.  If you do a copy and past of the text from the Help file into Word etc and change the font it displays correctly.

Note:
I'll update this main post if everyone also found mistake in manual. (e.g gramatical issue, wrong tutorial, not working link or reference, etc)

Will the manual be updated with the corrections listed in this topic?

Do we have to re-install the steam version to see it, or is it automatic?

We are hoping we can get everything fixed.  If you have the steam version, the update should be automatic.

In that case, may I make a suggestion?

This isn't really a mistake so much as an oversight, but I feel the manual could be a bit more... complete. Some parts are very lacking in information, like the section for setting Traits. Most people don't know what "Pharmacology" means, and I've seen some confusion as to what the other Sp-Parameters actually do. It would also be nice if the default formulae for things like Agility and Luck were listed in the manual, rather than just a vague description of what the stats are for.

The section on Asset Standards could be expanded upon, as well. The descriptions for States.png and Window.png tell the reader practically nothing about how to edit or use them.

The Help file shows a yen symbol in numerous places when slash like this \  is what ought to be shown.

See attached image of part of the Messages help file text in the Event Commands parts of the texxt.

This occurs in numerous parts of the help file and not just in the Messages part.

I opened the help file in numerous browsers and the yen symbol shows in all.

I think the issue is a font one.  You may need a specific font installed for the help file to display correctly or it may be that the font being used may have problems with Windows. (I'm using Windows 7 32-bit.)

Microsoft started to make changes to fonts in XP and made more changes in Vista and up.  As a result of these changes many fonts have display, recognition, and install problems, especially if you are using Windows Vista or higher.

(I've done a good bit of trouble shooting regarding font problems on Windows.)

I had this problem in RM2k3.  Do you have your system locale set to Japanese by any chance?

It is set to English

Additional Info I found out on problem.

The issue is caused by the Meiryo font being used in the Help file.  If you do a copy and past of the text from the Help file into Word etc and change the font it displays correctly.

The Help file is going to have to not use the Meiryo font to fix this.

The Meiryo font is standard on Windows since 7 and up and  in newer version of Office and is the default Japanese language font Microsoft uses for newer versions of Windows.

You should be able to just click Help and then Contents, and that'll open the manual in your default browser.

Unless Macs make even less sense than I suspected.

How can we update the program with the non-steam version?

So, will there be an announcement somewhere when the manual is fully updated?

A lot of times the yen symbol showing up where \ would go in places has to do with the locality settings on your computer, such as when I wanted to play a certain imported game from Japan I changed the setting to recognize my commuter as if it has a Japanese localization and a lot of \ changed to yen on my computer. Like in the command prompt, in the pathing options for files and folders for certain applications, and in other places.

The yen sysmbol showing up where \ should go is basically a problem with converting certain data between the localizations.

Just though I would shed some light on why that might be there.

My locality is set to English (US) & I get the yen symbol.  The font used in the text is Meiryo it is the default font Japanese font on newer versions of Windows.  The font as I said above is part of newer versions of Windows & Office.  That \ looks like a yen symbol if you use that font regardless of how your localization is set if you have that font installed on your system.  (I tested this out in Word & Open Office)  You need to change the text  to a different font for it to show up correctly.  (If you do a copy & paste of the text into a word processor and change the font from Meiryo to another one like Times New Roman the / is displayed instead of the yen symbol.

I wasn't saying that it looks that way because of your settings I was saying it might look that way from stuff being copied from files on computers with different localization, the Engine was developed in Japan after all.

For the sake of "you're both wrong/right"

Shift-JIS ¥ is a Yen symbol when not used in Unicode software.  Previous versions of RPG Maker (read... all of them) that were produced in Japan for the Japanese market use the code page that does this on English computers. So seeing backslashes or Yen symbols in some places means that the string isn't being displayed as Unicode. This is particularly harmful if you open a javascript file that is part of RPG Maker MV and forget to save it back as Unicode.

In versions of Windows before Windows 7, (eg 98/98/ME/NT4/2000/2003/XP) you could only set the localiziation at the operating system level. So in Windows XP, the regionalization setting on a Japanese PC is "Japanese" CP932, and ALL software, English or Japanese will be treated as Japanese software. This works fine when you run English software in Japan, with the caveat that some symbols will be wrong (like the backslash = yen) as far as you're concerned. On the flip side of this Japanese software will not work on English computers precisely because English computers don't recognize non-ascii filenames, and many software programs both in Japan and in the US continued to be developed without Unicode support (this includes all RPG Maker products prior to MV), so getting a Japanese program to work on an English PC often meant using AppLocale (hamfistedly forces the program to run in the correct codepage if the right fonts are available) provided you were able to extract the program from it's zip/rar file in the first place.

This is why if you are producing software you use only use lower-case english letters, underline and the dash to name filenames. Doing so makes sure that the software works on all computers.

Here are some notes I took:

-- How to Set Traits - [Attack] Tab --

Attack State
Adds an effect of changing states to normal attacks. Specify the effect and the change in rate of success
(0 to 1000%, 100% means no change).
((more then 100%, 100% no change?, neg values possible?))

-- Item Settings - Damage --
((described twice))

Type

Effect types related to HP and MP. Select one open from 6 different types. [Damage] decreases, [Recover] increases, and [Drain] transfers (removes a small amount from target and gives to user).

Element

The element that is assigned to an effect.

-- Terms Settings - Parameter Details --
((wrong page -> Types))

Equipment Types

Names for the items which a player wears. Specify the words used in the parameter provided for each default name.

-- Map Properties - Parallax Background --
((what dose it do?))

Also, when you add a "!" to the beginning of a parallax background image file name, the parallax will become 0.

I've been watching videos about the videogame streamer Open Hand charity scandal, and the rabbit hole keeps getting deeper.
