I feel like this question may have been asked before, but I just can't find anything on it... But here goes!

I'm trying to see if there is any method (plugins, script, mods, etc) on working push (local) notifications for Android/iOS for RPG Maker MV. My searches have resulted in message and item notifications, but not push notifications.

Basically, making use of the player's local time, the game will notify the player when a certain time event happens regardless if the game is already running or not. Example: Mom waking player at 6am to let out the chickens.

I understand that both iOS and Android require different methods when it comes to push notifications, so advice on either would be helpful. However, if no methods for this exist then c'est la vie, I'll move on to a different engine for this particular project.

First you have to kind of understand exactly what push notifications are, and how they work in regards to apps. For an app to actually make use of push notifications it needs to have a process running in the background of the device. And with the way RPG Maker MV handles game functions nothing happens if the game is not running, and upon starting the game all flags are set to their defaults in the event of a new game, or to their last saved states if a save is loaded.

While I'm not going to say creating the kind of game your describing is not possible in RMMV, I will say it is going to be difficult as you would have to have a co-process running for it that tracks time, sets flags, states etc, in regards to your game. On top of that, it needs to be able to read your save data, so it can make sure that that information is saved properly for when the game is launched and actively being played.

On top of that, this needs to be coded specifically for android and iOS. There really is no drop in solution for this. At the least none that I am aware of.

Mm... :kaosigh: After some experimenting I gave up on using RPGMV for this project since, although it does have mobile capability, it's not flexible for such processes. Or I've simply just been trying the wrong methods. Either way, RPGMV is on the useless end in terms of having processes run in the background. But I guess that is where its strength lies.

Thanks for the response, Isaac. I'm glad that someone replied with the same conclusion and it's not my ineptitude :kaoswt:

Yea, the engine just isn't built with that in mind. JRPGs are its intended focus, though I've seen all manner of different games made in the engine. Just that type of game would require a lot of external work to function. Though I've seen multiplayer mom style games built in RPG Maker in the past, so I can't say its a lost cause. Just that it would be far from easy lol.

I'm taking a break from Game Work to actually play a game (NEO: The World Ends With You) and I'm terrified that I'm gonna lose the drive for my project, since prior to picking up NEO, I'd been doing at least a little bit of work on the project each day ahhh.
