After seeing some examples of mode 7 being used, I now regret not using it in my project!
Here is a quick example I threw together using a custom perspective:
I underestimated how beautiful and cool it can look! Of course I think it would look better if no black edges were visible and that's easily accomplished by expanding the maps and creating barriers in some other fashion.
There are some drawbacks, however. The camera angles are harder to control both in cutscenes and while the player is running around. Map design has to be altered to consider this. If anyone has experience in this please let me know of any other drawbacks or benefits!
So? What do you guys think about using mode 7 style perspective in games?
