Like an actual monster hunter game where you play as some sort of detective/private eye and encounter all kinds of different monsters, i.e. classic movie monsters, cryptids, lovecraftian monsters, urban legend monsters.

It could be turn based, rogue like or action-adventure (similar to Zelda). Focus on horror atmosphere. You could learn about enemy weaknesses through multiple encounters with the same enemy or notes/dialogue. Some enemies can be immune to all damage except for specific weapons or items, i.e. werewolves who can only be damaged with silver weapons.

Have some sort of trophy room with taxidermy or pictures or other trophies earned after you've defeated bosses or a certain amount of a specific enemy.

There could be ritual mechanics where when you obtain certain artifacts/items/etc that you can combine them to summon and fight (or control) certain mobs or bosses.

Huge map with many different locales that you can travel to and from on the overworld in your car. The car has a limited storage and acts as a mobile base. Maybe have upgrades to turn vehicle into a van/rv/mcc that allows more storage or potential other benefits. Bigger vehicles could have interiors that provide different equipment or benefits or something.

I've kicked this around for the last year and never jumped the gun. It seemed like a very ambitious project and I wouldn't know where to begin.
