What I'm looking for is a lunar landscape tileset that has similar features to the normal overworld set. For example, in Final Fantasy IV, you can travel to the moon, and it looks like this:

Now, by no means am I looking for some sort of replica, but I've used this image to illustrate the features I'm looking for. You'll notice the tileset used in FF4's moon has its own mountain auto-tiles (bottom-left), and a neat plateau-like auto-tile that serves as the main mountainous areas. It also has a crater tile, and random stalactite/rock obstacle tiles.

Essentially what I'm looking for then is a lunar landscape tile that has those features. In addition, I'm kinda hoping for crystal-forests (based on something like this (
) this from the default set) as an auto-tile to replace forests, and possibly 1x1 craters in varying sizes and a 2x2 crater :p .

I've searched everywhere and I haven't found anything at all! Please help :)

This is a great idea. I haven't seen anything like this around, but it doesn't seem like an "out-of-this-world" haha request.

I will search around for you, but I have to admit, this is a great idea for a little resource pack.

Thanks very much! Even though I've played better RPGs since FF4, I've always been captivated by the idea of the game's planet having a (visitable) underworld and moon. I decided years ago that if I ever designed a full game with the Maker, I'd have them too. Well, here I am... and it's so surprising to find fifty million suitable underworld sets and zero moon sets so far!

Well, I'm too impatient and creative to let it go undone, so I've come up with something on my own. In case anyone has any interest in this whatsoever, I felt compelled to share.

For the most part, most tiles in the tilesets I'm using in my game are as default as possible. That being said, what I'm using for my moon is essentially a modification of the default World tilesets. If you like the default World tilesets, then my moon tilesets will likely work smoothly (from an aesthetic point of view) in your game.

Here is a shot of what the in-game looks like with the tiles:

Don't forget to include the Terminator when making your moon (actually, it's 2 Terminators,

which is very appropriate!) I recommend the shadow pen, along with a parallel process event

that changes the player or vehicle sprite to a darkened version and back depending on that

character's MapX (or MapY if you're using horizontal Terminators).

Effectively the tiles are a neat hue-switch from the default; the FF4-like plateau autotile

seen here was made very simply by inverting the default "hole" autotile and filling in the

former center hole portion with material.

One final caveat: I originally worked on all the water tiles to make them blood-red so they'd

look off-hue as well, but I didn't complete adding purple edges to the autotiles or anything

because I decided not to use water on my moon. Use/edit as you like—might be neat to add

to the regular world tile.

As you can see, not all tiles were even modified, but there's more than enough to

create a moon with even more features than FF4 or my screenshot. Feel free to

continue modifying or use as-is :) .

Enjoy!

Rapiermother, these edits are going to get lost and forgotten here, you should make a new post in "RPG Maker VX/Ace Resources" so that people will be able to find and use them.

So if I want to use the recolors in my game, are there any specific guidelines as to what I can use, how I can use them, and who I need to credit?

@Grandma, that monster crater is INSANE! I love it ^.^!

@Xenos: No credit of any kind is required if you want to use the moon tiles! Feel free, it's entirely for the community's benefit. If you want to give credit anyway, RapierMother is a clever enough name to flash in the credits ;) ... j/k. If you feel like crediting my name, PM me, and I'll tell ya, and even show you what I'm working on, if you;re interested!

Enjoy the lunar landscape!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
