Power ranger reference there but I think it makes sense

So I want to know what people think,
For short changing work, on sprites, or just for style,

Not specific to any job particular

Do you think its cool to have your characters change outfit or morph, into there battle gear at the start of battle?
I kind of like the idea of casual gear and battle gear, But then I think it may be silly sometimes

Unless there's a story reason for it, like how the Power Rangers morph for battle, or how the SMT V protagonist fuses with Aogami to become the Nahobino, I personally don't like characters changing outfits. If I like the normal design but not the morphed design, then I'm stuck looking at the form I dislike while in combat.

Yeah that's a good point, take sailor moon for example, tux mask just looked silly were sailor moon just got a skimpy version of the same outfit,
At least the others got different colours lol

Well, Tuxedo Mask had a theme going, plus he had to protect his identity. As for Serena (or Usagi if you prefer) and the others, they need to change to fight properly, so it's fine.

Now that I think about it, morphing into a fighting form should only occur when a character enters a hostile area, and they should remain that way until making their way to an area where they need to look normal. There's no reason to do it at the start of every battle.

I had created game like that before, so basically the main characters are regular human (cannot battle) but able to morph to other form in battle.

I think that suits the RPG theme also, changing back and forth would only really count if they have to preserve there power or identity I guess, or again power ranger rules not escalating the fight,
But yeah enter a danger zone, and suit up, enter a safe zone, dress casual, lol I can think of at least 10 games where there entering say a court or Kings hall armed to the teeth in a potentially hostile neighbourhood, and there like "we come in peace... armed to the teath"

Been thinking about incorporating this kind of idea my self, though the way I would do it probably make it into a feature lol.

It's not exactly the same, but I have a character that wears a cloak and hat on the map, but in battle the cloak and hat are gone. Not sure it will stay. Not sure if I'm going to have "travel" clothes for all the map sprites and battle clothes for the battle sprites.

I like the idea, though. It makes sense that the gear configuration on your characters would change for those circumstances.

I'm lazy, though. I already have enough to do and would rather not have to create some sort of transitional assets to show the costume change (cloak and hat being tossed off at the start of battle).

Lol yeah I get what you mean, I do my own sprites so I know how much time it takes to just do 1 character, just thinking about doing a full games worth lol mind blown

Someone needed help with a problem in C#. I've got 0 experience in C#. I read 0 lines of their code. I only knew what they wanted to do. I wrote a completely generic code in Javascript containing the generic answer. But they understood what I was doing and translated that to their code. 20 seconds later, problem solved.
