Almost every individual has played video games before. All types, some types or a few types: action, fantasy, RPG, co-op, simulator... the list goes on. However, there is one game genre that many have played that has occasionally struck an unforeseen and involuntary fear within them. That game genre is horror. Some people claim that the horror games of the past are the most scariest and some claim the complete opposite. What is the most frightening game you have ever played?
I have a number of very terrifying games I have played:
- Calling (Wii) - Even though they are mainly jumpscares, the randomness of their occurrences still are unnerving to this day.
- The Penumbra Collection - The Second Game mostly had me on edge because there was a hideous yet terrifying figure stalking the hallways, and I had to stop before I made a turn or look behind me occasionally because the atmosphere was that tense. You didn't know when he was going to appear and when he did, the chase scenes were near endless.
- Fatal Frame (PS2) - The Fatal Frame series is my favorite horror series to date, because of it's enthralling story and intriguing characters. When I first purchased this Classic from the PSN store, I didn't know exactly what I had just done. Even though you had a camera to exorcise spirits with, the desolate, solitary setting of the mansion in which the game takes place in and the appearance, behavior and stories of the ghosts, the game was utterly frightening from beginning to end and my interest was not discarded not once.
- Siren (PS2) Arguably the hardest game I have ever played and yet a very eerie, alarming tale as well. Strategy practically breathes within this game as you have to time all of your movements perfectly, keep an eye on your enemies, watch your back simultaneously, avoid the sight of the shibito (the undead of the island the game takes place on), all under the cover of fog and the night, relying on your wits about you, makes the game strangely satisfying and practically wills you to go on. The game is very frustratingly hard, the side-missions are seemingly small but very important story wise as many players can miss a story event multiple times, the story itself and it's characters are unusual and hard to get accustomed to (especially with the voice acting), the combat is very clunky, but all in all, it's a great horror game, but only for those high in patience, and those with a reliable game walkthrough guide.
So, what are the most frightening games you have ever played?
