Hey, so I'm curious because side scrolling platform games are a field I really haven't kept up with well since the days when Mega Man X was a new game lol although I've been on a bit of a retro kick lately, and also my internal game designer is for some reason very thirsty for the idea of making a side scroller/platformer (it helps that I've been collecting resources for such a game 'just in case' for way too long)...what side scrolling game (preferably real time, preferably a platformer) has the most involved and/or complicated story and the most dialogue and/or text?

I am not talking about 'lore' like I'm pretty sure Terraria or Shovel Knight or w/e have pretty deep lore if you're willing to wiki-walk for it, I mean up-front storytelling, like words on screen (or if you want to get fancy about it, voice over). As a dev I don't want to attempt to develop a game in this genre if I can't lean heavily on writing which is my greatest strength, and as a player I don't recall (I might of course be forgetting something) playing a platformer with more story/dialogue than idk, Megaman Xn.

Dex is a sidescroller RPG. Has a good amount of dialogue, cutscenes, story, etc.

A side story is almost getting into the next stage. Almost everything in this game has real-life references.

Everyday life is full of absurdity. This is just a reflection.
TFW you discover how the script batching works in VNMaker... after you've had the program for almost 3 years.

Writes that the characters have to climb a mountain.

Realized that I have to draw six sets of models where characters are climbing.

At least I know how to draw something. :)
I'm currently scratching my head on how to design plains. What do I even put in plains? Some trees (but not too many or it turns into a forest)? Grass? A few bushes? That's a bit dull.
I'm looking for tutorials but Google didn't seem to find much (or maybe I have the wrong keywords). I don't know how to map plains and I don't know how to learn.
