    The unwanted are kicked into
    the black sea...
    ... where they would
    melt and harden into
    a pure metal.

    The metal was then harvested
and put to good use by the
    common man.

From the most handsome developer ever...
Samu presents you with a new RPG experience that will
    Blow. Your. Mind.

Introducing Mothlight. A game about exploration, weird stuff,
and exploring a world made entirely out of people. Literally.

    WORLD

    This world is different.
As people were kicked into the black sea,
their bodies melted and then hardened
into a pure metal called "Dreg Ore".

Soon the ore started to clump together
and form islands. This happened more
and more until continents were made.

People who were kicked in fell on land instead
of in the water. And then boom. Civilization.

    GAMEPLAY

Your main goal is to explore and thrive!
Gear up, get cooler armor and be more stylish.
Fight more bizarre bosses and find more exciting items!
The world is yours to conquer!

    STORY

Neethan threatens Augus in a time most harsh.
Demons from the darkest depths of the sea are making everyone go mad.
The Apostles of the Deep Ones are manipulating powerful entities...
And Enzo is stuck in the middle of it.
Escape this hell and return to the world above...
...or be devoured by the eldritch abominations below.

This is going to be an incomplete bit of feedback, since I only have a few minutes to play right now, but I have some thoughts.
The gameplay here is decent. There were a few battles where the enemy and I spent several turns doings 0 damage to each other at the first level, but for the most part, the fights are simple and don't drag on too long.
What hooked me was the presentation. The overworld graphics were a little cheap-looking, but I love all the bizarre little drawings, and the moody audio really helped immerse me into the world. I'm really curious to see what's coming next. I have high hopes for this!

COMPLAINT: On my first playthrough, I used the savepoint thing, and text came up saying SAVEPOINT ACTIVATED. Naturally, I thought that was enough and I would respawn there if I died. However when the boss killed me, I noticed that there were no saves! It's far from game-breaking, and its obvious now that you have to use it twice to save the game, but it's annoying to have to play the first room over again. Also, it would have been nice to have some indication that it was healing me.

Looking forward to playing this game in coming days! Looks awesome. Really awesome. But I do have one question, how did you get your sprites to have that hand drawn feel? I've seen it plenty of places and have always wanted to use it in a game of my own.

Yo! Thanks for being excited! Very appreciated. I have a tablet device that I draw on, I use clip studio paint. If you have a drawing tablet or like a touch-screen windows device, you can use the pen to accurately emulate real pen strokes if you know what I mean(?). (Bad at explaining stuff heh)
But yeah, check out Clip Studio Paint and maybe get a wacom tablet yo'. Thanks!

Looks interesting, gives me both Yume Nikki and Undertale vibes, I will give it a try and let you know what I think.
    Congratulations for the Steam release!

I finished it in almost 3 hours, felt very Undertalish but with way darker themes.

It was enjoyable despite the few issues I experienced, the music being one of them, it sounded rather twisted in some places and kind of weird but I suppose that's intentional with the theme of the game?
There is a bug on that purple spectral bridge that appears when you walk on it after beating the boss (The Valkyrie I think was the name? Can't recall exactly but it's in that area), the sound effects keep playing everytime you walk on the bridge even when it's fully shown.
There are also a few grammar issues in the Item Descriptions, I think in the Lion Ring description for example you wrote "stong" instead of "strong".
I got a bit confused when purchasing weapons and armors for my party members, mainly because in the Shops themselves the game says they can equip them, but ultimately some of your party members slots are locked so you'll end up wasting money if you are not careful about what you purchase.
What I liked the most in your game is the interesting and rather unusual lore, but most importantly the animations in the battles (smooth and very well made), the art-style was very nice too even if it appeared rather inconsistent in some places (like in Undertale).
The gameplay was ok, it's a classic Rpg with a bit of exploration and a few basic puzzles here and there, everything felt a bit linear at the beginning but soon as you explore more (and the world expands) you made sure to give the player enough locations to visit, which is good.
I also liked that you can change the appearance of Enzo and listen to the music anytime with the cassettes, those are all very nice additions.

The story was interesting but felt a bit rushed towards the end and left me with a few questions unanswered.
What was exactly the Harbinger? Lucien's Guardian? And what about those words in that foreign language?
Are Idris and Norby really dead?
What about that extra post-credits scene?
You can see Lilly and Enzo's Cosmic Blade in the picture (in the Upper World I think) but I didn't quite understand well what I was looking at.

In any case, it was a good game and fun to play, you clearly put a lot of effort there and it's obvious.

Very well done, I liked it!

Wow! Thank you so much! Seriously, your comments are very much appreciated! :D
On the ending, the Harbinger was a 'true' Old one. During the game you only fought the Apostles/ disciples of the Old ones, so the Harbinger was one of the many real old ones who lie within the depths of the sea. Norby and Idris are dead, unfortunately. and the picture at the end was of Enzo and Lilly making it to the surface world.
    Thank you for playing!!!

Ah that explains everything, thanks for clarifying.
Hopefully this game will get the attention it deserves eventually, I'll make sure to leave a review on Steam too after the release.

The game looks cool, and a lot of effort definitely went into it. Hope it gets the attention it deserves! Great work! :kaopride:
By the way, you might want to hide your explanation under a spoiler warning for people who haven't played your game, or those who end up here while playing it. Kind of breaks the whole suspense. ;)

    Congratulations for the Steam release!
I'm having a problem though there, the game doesn't seem to record the playtime on Steam and so I can't seem to be able to review it.
It only records up to 1 minute and Steam wants people to play it for at least 5 minutes before allowing them to submit a review (I played it for hours btw).
Not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this problem or what, but it's definitely frustrating not being able to leave a review there.

Currently contacting Steam Support to try and fix this issue, hope there's a solution so just give it a day or so. Sorry about that.

Hi!! I really love this game so far, it reminds me of OFF, thought completely different and special in its own way. The art is creepy and beautiful along with the music. I am stuck, though, on the steam version on beating Idris... any suggestions???
