I am very new to RPG Maker.

I have created a two very simple events. Event A is set to parallel and has only one line - move Event B toward Player. Event B is set to activate upon event touch and contains dialogue. This works just fine if my character is not facing directly towards or directly away from Event B. If my character is facing directly away or towards Event B, Event B stops moving one space away. This is true regardless of where I am on the map.

I have done this before in a different game and had no problems. Can someone please help?

If event A is between the player and event B, then event B will not move onto the same tile - even though there may not be a sprite, there IS an event on the tile, and two events will not occupy the same tile.

However, there's a better approach than what you're trying.

Delete event A altogether.  In Event B, set the Autonomous Movement option to Approach.  That will make it move towards the player.  And the trigger should be Event Touch (sounds like you've already got that sorted).

If this doesn't work, please give a screenshot of Event B, showing the entire event window, as well as a screenshot of the map (in the editor, not while playing), pointing out where the player and event B are.

There's no events in the way. And I have only a basic green field for the map.(

I did try the approach suggestion (shown in the photos - also while Z1 was changed to approach I turned off Z1 Mover). It has the same affect. It doesn't really show in a stationary picture - but I also attached a picture of the map at this point - I'm not moving the character and the event isn't moving either.

I don't think this would make a difference, but do you have followers turned on in the menu?  How many party members do you have, and how did you remove the extras - did you delete the slots in the Actors tab, or did you delete them from the System tab?

Thank you. That appears to have solved it. I went into the database and first set maximum actors to 1. This worked. I then changed it back to 4 and made the main actor the only actor under the system tabs. This also worked. I then created another event which added a follower and that person join my party (with show followers checked). It acted just like before. Apparently there were invisible people in my party that didn't show up in game or the menu.

I may have another question at some point about how to make events interact with followers, but for now my problem has been fixed.

To set your party to only one person, you don't do it by removing lines from the Actors tab - you do it by deleting them from the starting party section in the System tab.

What you did was to clear actors 2, 3 and 4.  But if you didn't delete them from the System tab, the game would still have started with you having 3 'blank' actors.  And once you clear them in the Actor's tab, it's hard to see what's in the system tab, because although they're there, the names don't show.  If you had given them names again, you would have seen them in the System tab.

When the issue happened, you probably took a few steps in one direction, and then a single step in a different direction.  This would have put one follower right beside you, with the others above/below that follower, which is why the event only stopped two tiles away instead of 3 or 4.  You can walk through the followers, but I don't think events can (not sure on that).

If you had set up your other 3 actors to have sprites, it would have been very clear what was happening :)

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
