I would like to request that when a member has been here for 5 or ten years they move from just a veteran to a new catagory to something else honoring the years of service. I know I joined in 2011 and Zerub a few months later so I been here about 12 years now. 12 years!! All it would take is adding two member categories and two member badge graphics.

Maybe
5 years - elite
10 years - Champion

Idk those titles are little lamo but you get the idea. But being here 5 or ten years should have some kind of little rewards.

Didn't know anyone actually cared about the titles here.

So making an account and just manage to not be banned would make you automatically a champion after ten years even if you just barely contribute to anything and disappear for years inbetween? That does not make sense at all.
Binding it to post count on the other hand might lead to meaningless one liners to blow up the message counts and "level up".

I have actively contributed to the community and Zerib has too. I notice that a very large number of the 5 and then year club are gone. Not active for a long long time. I am.just trying to strengthen the community by keeping the elders and the members with the years of experience and knowledge to keep coming back and keep the resources active also!! That's all I am trying to do but members do automatically become a veteran since you did bring that up and it requires nothing contributed.

I agree with Avery. Age of the account doesn't really count for much - people could make an account, do nothing with it but follow some threads, come back ten years later and be an honored elder?

I do also agree that there could be more tiers, it's a bit silly to call people a veteran at...20 posts, or whatever it is, and then that's it. But then:
Didn't know anyone actually cared about the titles here.
This. Especially since you can change it to custom text.

I think that's a nice thing. I don't think the title on someone's profile is going to achieve that :guffaw: A trophy is an idea, too, but is your decision to log into the forum or not determined by what your profile block looks like?

I guess I just can't sympathize with the desire to alter which Web site I use based on a little cosmetic area. I'm here because I'm interested in the subject matter and the community is overall a pleasant one.

Technically, that's not true - it requires 20 (or whatever) posts. That's not much required contribution, but it's not automatically from nothing.

The only real good way to achieve what you're looking for would be to account for both number of posts and age of account, maybe factoring in a certain percentage of reactions? I don't know the forum software can do that.

Pretty sure they are talking about this, not the custom text title thingy.1675446343151.png

Either way, they don't do anything. They don't unlock anything, they don't make you a superior member of any kind, they don't show your knowledge of the engine. They do literally nothing.

Now if we had more meaningful reactions, we could have some nifty titles like "super helpful" "engine guru" and whatnot.
if we would make them based on the reactions received on posts, someone who's living on the forum like @ATT_Turan and helping out people would potentially receive a lot of "super helpful" reactions, and thus earning the deserved title.

This would also add meaning to the titles, as new people could easily tell when a person has this kind of title, they can pretty much be sure that the advice they give is solid.

Just some thoughts.

lol, I'm not smart. Shows how much that chunk of the profile even registers with me, I've apparently blocked it out.

Agreed. So, like, some version of the idea is fine, I guess, but I don't really see that it is going to give a person some incentive to be active on the Web site if they aren't otherwise inclined to.

Yeah, people who've been helping out for years are already doing so. They're not going to stop/continue just because they get a title now.
New people should be joining because of actual reasons, not because there's some "good job" points to be had.
Overall, I would rather petition to just get rid of it because frankly everyone and their mum is a veteran and nobody cares anyway.

Now that you bring it up here, I've already made a status update about this, but please replace "veteran" with "regular". I started it as a joke, but half of it I'm actually serious.

I agree with the petition to remove it. The only thing it really does is let people know if you're eligible to access classifieds.

Only if you've been here long enough to even know about the post requirement for classified and the amount of posts required for veteran. New people won't know jack about it lol. It's all just really pointless fluff. Could be replaced by equally pointless, but more customizable fluff imho.

Please no. I've been places where people have animated, flashing garbage giving me epilepsy on the side of the screen while I'm trying to read.

Do not want.
Oh, that brings back memories of some old forums indeed! I loved that stuff as a kid though ngl lol.

If we're going down that route do I get something for having been around the community for over 20 years? :p

It’s 2023 and dedicated forums are simply a thing of the past. Sites like Reddit, Discord Mastodon etc are taking over and have done for a while now. Titles aren’t going to make people look at you any different aside from “oh this person has been here a while”.

Outside of that, being recognised as a long standing community member doesn’t do much and ultimately no one would care. If you want to feel validated, appreciated, recognised etc, etc then that ship is long gone. Sucks but that’s just the way it is now.

imgur sure is getting weird, one day I lose gradually all my images, the other I get them back randomly and then again they disappear again.
Despite OPT2 praise it still has some strange stories in it. Lady Mikka is trying to work herself to death because of guilt. Guilt over what? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So instead of finding a NPC to have a heart to heart with her they decide the cure is a new kimono. So when she drops dead she'll at least be well dressed. I haven't even got to the strange part yet.
Did so much work on the game today. I wish I could post it all in this status update but there is a character limit of course haha. I thought about making a topic for updates, though... maybe.
The most recent sign that I am old. I have done martial arts for over 4 decades. Never HAD to stretch out. Good, of course, but never required. Was doing some kicks in the kitchen because, why not, and I felt a pop in the back of my thigh. Now I am limping around. Gotta love getting old.
One of the biggest perks of being fluent in English is how many new and interesting recipes I am able to find and try out that I would have hardly come across if I just spoke my mothertounge :3
