Moving Vehicle cutscene.

Hello. I need to make a cutscene where a vehicle is moving. I imagine it like a bus is at the center, making some sort of shaking to imply that it is moving, it has a background of mountains which scrolls horizontally to make it look like that the bus is traveling. How do I do this? I don't have any idea on how vehicles work on RPG MV.  Please correct me if I did anything wrong on this post. Thank you for anyone who can help. I just badly need this. Well, from the sounds of it, you want a side-view movie of the bus. Pretty easy to accomplish. Just make your map, in the properties, make a parallax background (Set it to mountains since you want mountains), then make an event that has an image of the vehicle you want. Set it's movement route to move right and repeat. Set the event to parallel, and ensure horizontal looping is enabled in your map properties. To have the camera follow it, you could either set the camera to follow the event using a plugin, or have the player set to transparent, and set his movement route to match the bus.


Using this, you'll have a setup like the picture below, obviously using your bus instead of the monster. If you have the sprite set up, it'll protrude above the ground, giving the appearance of looking at it from the side. The ground will move while the mountains stay stationary, giving a good sense of movement. Unless you're REALLY bookin' it, the mountains wouldn't move for the distance covered in a short cutscene. Thank you for that really detailed and fast answer! One problem though, my bus is a tileset and occupies 6 tiles of space. How do I set its movements?

As far as I could tell from looking in the default resources, there really isn't a "big bus" vehicle. I attempted to use the smaller bus models, but the fact that the sprite cuts the bus in half kind of limits its usage. I used the monster to show the overlap of a larger sprite. You'd most likely need to get a custom sprite for your bus. I'm sure you can find one somewhere. If not, you could always head over to the resource request forum and ask the folks over there. Until then, though, you could always use a smaller placeholder sprite if you're looking to work on it immediately.


EDIT: Nevermind. Tinkered around a bit more and got the smaller bus to work. You'll need to make two separate events (One for each sprite in the red boxed area below) Set the movement route to move right, repeat on both. Set them on the highest frequency, and check Directional Fix.

you don't use vehicles in a cutscene at all, you'll use events pretending to be vehicles.


That said you can either use a nove command on the vehicle on a map that circles (one of the options in map properties) or use a scrolling parallax picture (again in the map properties) on an event that doesn't move at all.

thanks again for the reply! I have a problem trying to use the tileset as a sprite (shown in the picture below). I tried editing it to the default size of an MV sprite 48x48 and the box just keeps getting smaller. I don't know how to fix this. Any help on how I can fix this? Thank you so much for helping me.

that is because tiles and sprites use different formats, and you can't simply place a tile as a sprite.


Sprites can be any size (no need to conform to 48x48 unless you need to fix to the grid) but they need multiples of the same element, and you need to tell the program if the sprite picture contains one sprite (3x4 elements) by placing a $ in the filename or if the sprite picture contains 4x2 sprites (12x8 elements) by default (no special letter in the filename)

Hi @andar and thanks for the reply. That seems a bit complicated and I decided to use the default bus instead. So I followed @Ugouka's example but I encountered a problem where the map doesn't scroll on it's own, and the bus doesn't move unless I click somewhere along the map. I followed the instructions and set both bus events to move right(repeat), direction fix and highest frequency. I created an autorun event that makes the player transparent when transferred to the map and sets his movement route to right repeatedly  (same as the bus event) to fix the camera at the position of the bus. I checked the map settings and all were followed as instructed (setting loop horizontally enc 30 steps and having a mountain parallax background). I want the land to be scrolling continuously while the bus stays at the middle implying that the bus is moving/travelling. I really am at lost here. What should I do?


Edited. the problem where The bus moves when I click somewhere in the map occured because I accidentally chose action button on the player event. Now I changed it to autorun and things have gone worse. Nothing moves at all not even when I click anywhere in the map. Ugh

@yoshii Show us screenshots of your event, then we can help.


By the way - that is the intention of autorun: if you place an event on autorun then all player input is intentionally ignored because that is the very definition of autorun: runautomatically without player input.

Hi @Andar sorry for the late reply. I managed to fix it, scrolling, bus moving, etc. But one last problem, just like @Ugouka said,I set my player to transparent and placed it where my vehicle is, then set its movement route to match the bus, to make the camera look like its following the bus. Now back to the problem, I think my player moves a little bit to fast for the vehicle to follow and as a result, the bus gradually gets left behind. How do I fix this? I'm sorry for the stupid questions, my mind seems to have stopped working ._.

Did you set the bus movement speed to normal? Default is 2x slower, you'll have to change it.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
