This is my first post, but definitely won't be my last.

I'm trying to create a game and it's coming along pretty well. But I'm running into a problem where I'm on a certain map and I want to use a specific tileset, but I already have tilesets in tabs A-E. And I learned pretty quickly that if I just try to swap out a tileset it changes everything on my map that was on the original tileset(I had floor tiles then I change tilesets and the floor turns into birthday cakes. Heck of a level, let me tell you!). So, is there a way to have more than A-E tilesets?

No, there isn't - the tilesets and tabs are fixed.

What you usually do when you need tiles from different tilesheets is to "frankentile" a new sheet.

That is you open two or three of the existing tilesheets in an image program like GIMP or Photoshop and copy parts of each sheet together into a new sheet(ignoring tiles you don't need from those sheets), save the mixed sheet and use that in a new tileset in your project for those maps who need that combination of tiles.

One other approach you can do is create an event, and for the graphic of that event use the tile you want to be there. Set it to below players if you want to walk on it, same as players if  you don't want to walk on it (and above players to make it on the ceiling). However, if you use this approach, you are restricted to what times have been converted to sprites, and the only ones I've seen are under Other3 in sprite graphics. If you want more, you'll have to convert them yourself.

Also, you can easily hit the event limit for the map if you do this too often.

Thanks! Where can I find the default tilesheets? I didn't realize they were accessible on the HD. If I do decide to frankentile will that give me the same "birthday cake" result as before, unless I keep the originals in the same places?

I also didn't know there was a max number of events in a map. What is the max number?

Wow there is a limit? even if you script and not use build in events?

You'll have to go into the directory where RPGMaker is, it should be under graphics. Open up the tilesheet (make backups first in case you do something silly too!), and then you can copy and paste the graphics you need to a sprite. Keep in mind all sprites are 3 x 4, so you need at minimum 12 graphics pulled over (though you can use the same one if you wish), and if you only have one sprite in the sheet, it has to be saved with a $ in front of the name.

The event limit is 999 per map from what I have been told. Though, I've seen some people get to 10000, though I have no idea how.

Much easier - just open the resource manager, select the tilesheet you want and then click on the "export" button.

On all B to E sheets, the tiles can be repositioned at will without problems.

The A#-sheets contain autotiles in different formats, and you can only exchange tiles that are the same format (you'll see tiles in 64x96, 64x64 and 32x32 depending on which sheet you are, and on A1 with the animated tiles there is even a 192x96 pixel format)

But yes, tiles already used have to stay in the same position or they will change if you change the tilesheet of a tileset - usually you do the frankentiling for a new tileset before starting the map, then that problem would not exist.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
