Hello everyone! My name is Darren Curtis and I'm a musician/composer. I grew up playing many different RPGs from the SNES and early Playstation era. Ever since I can remember, the music to those games drew me in and never seemed to let go. Now, I've come full circle and am making my own music and loving every second of it (well, most every second).

I recently found this forum because I started working on the score for a game being made in RPG Maker VX Ace. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this community full of creative people and projects. I look forward to interacting and making contributions where I can. I have several different styles of music posted and I'm not afraid to try my hand at most anything. Click on any of these categorized links to hear the music of that type and don't be afraid to let me know what you think!

Most of the tracks posted are assigned to projects, so they are not available. But they are a good showcase of what I am capable should anyone be interested in custom music. All of my RPG music I provide is in .ogg format and looped unless otherwise noted or requested.

To follow my commissions/classified thread, please Click Here!

Lastly, here are five royalty free tracks that are available to use however you like (even commercially). All I ask is to be given credit. I've had them up on my youtube channel for awhile, but as I have just found this forum, they will be "new" additions here. I will start a new thread in the proper section just for the royalty free tracks and it will be updated from time to time as I plan on adding free tracks here and there as I go. These tracks are in .ogg format, looped and ready to be imported and easily dropped into place.

If there are any problems with the tracks, any requests, questions or interest in working with me, please don't hesitate to contact me on here or at my e-mail address: desperatemeasurez@yahoo.com

Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to read/listen. Best wishes!

Darren

UPDATE: Two new tracks are finished and posted. The first, "Blood And Tears," is a dramatic battle piece. It's fast paced, but the strings and violin add a slower, dramatic edge to this composition. I imagined this not as a 'regular' battle theme, but for a special fight. Perhaps fueled by vengeance. Maybe the main character's long time friend was killed in front of him and now he must face the villain in an emotional, climactic encounter. I imagined his rage and anger mixed with his sadness and regret.

The second track is a simplistic, winter ambient theme. I layered some wind, pad-like soundscapes in the background. The rhythm is driven by the neutral, hollow piano and features tremolo strings, Chinese tam tam, and a bottle synth layered with a recorder for the end half of the piece.

Let me know what you think. Best wishes all!

I've only so far listened to the Royalty Free set, and I must say you did great! I'm not the best music critic, but they sounded wonderful to me. I'm thinking of using a few in the game I am currently working on. Are the two in the second post also used? Or are they available to be used in projects as well? Either way, awesome job.

Why, thank you! I appreciate your kind words. Only the five listed are royalty free at the moment. Of the last two I posted, "Winter Ambience" is already being used in a game. "Blood And Tears" is not assigned to anything yet, but it's not royalty free. If you are interested in prices, feel free to pm me.

Or if you are only interested in the royalty free tracks, I would keep my eye on this month's resource release. I plan on submitting a couple pieces as a guest and if they are accepted they will also be royalty free. I plan on adding more tracks to that set constantly, so stay tuned. And thanks so much for the interest!

Also, as an update, a brand new piano composition just finished and uploaded: "Seeking The Lost."

I hope everyone enjoys!

You are truly skilled, and I may be calling upon your services in the future. I've already downloaded 'Come out and Play.'

By the way, what are your rates?

Why, thank you! I hope you can find some use for that piece and it serves you well. My rates tend to vary from project to project because each developer has different budgets, time constraints and musical needs. Whenever you're interested, please send me a pm with some details and we can talk there.

Thanks so much again. And best of luck with your Kickstarter! I watched your video. It was pretty cool.

Yeah... my current project is a bit of an odd beast. It's not for everyone; it's just a story I wanted to explore, and ended up linking to my previous title. Thanks for the compliment :)

You're quite welcome! I thought it looked interesting.

As an update to this page, I'm currently musically engaged. Just posting as a bump so this thread won't die on me. Listen to my music here: MY SOUNDCLOUD

Just need to say that Darrens work is absolutely amazing and should really have more exposure than he's gotten so far.

This is the title theme to a game I've already finished scoring. I've just never posted this track until now. It's the title theme in full. An abridged version was used for the actual game. I hope everyone enjoys.

I really agree that you should be getting more exposure. I for one appreciate composers that can jump from one theme to another, and do it as well as you do. Your battle themes can have a really dramatic effect, and your town themes offer some rest and relaxation. May I just ask if you record with live instruments or use programs? there's just a lot of instruments in there that sound incredible. I'm definitely following you on soundcloud lol

Why, thank you! Much appreciated.

I use various software programs to make my music. Some are a bit higher end. The sound engineers and developers have really done an outstanding job on some of them.

Thanks so much! I'll check out your stuff on there as well.

Oh, I guess we're pretty similar then. Probably the only live instrument I use is the guitar, everything else is just software. It still amazes me how developers were able to create such professional sounds.

But anyway,I'll be looking forward to more of your music! I hope I can maybe learn a thing or two lol

That's cool! I only play the piano. I want to learn the guitar soon. I have to get a lefty though.

I have only listened to a few of your tracks so far. I will more when I'm not so strapped for time. But I quite liked "A Day's Rest." I thought it was great! Looking forward to listening to more. Peace!

Hello again sir! I wanted to let you know that I've opted to use 'Dreamscape' as the BG music for my Kickstarter vid, with credits provided, of course.

Here's the link

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
