Hi there everyone, it's that stage now where I want to be making another music pack... however, I'm not sure what theme to go with as it seems like most things have been covered so far.  So I thought I would ask you all what you think I should do.  So my questions are these:

1. If I were to do another pack what theme would it cover?  (Is there anything the other packs don't cover at all/well enough/often enough?)

2. How many tracks would you like to see in the pack? (Do you want a small 10 tracks pack or all the way up to as big as a 30+ track pack?)

Based on your suggestions I may or may not make a poll depending on whether a particular theme/idea strikes me as something I want to do or whether there are multiple popular answers and a poll would be needed to make a decision.

Thanks in advance and I hope the results of this thread help to give you, the community, what music you need most in your games.

Good idea.

You might hate me for saying this, but moar battle music! I know you mentioned before that battle music is the hardest to do, but there can never be too much battle music in the community, this includes boss fights as well.

Also, more sci-fi and futuristic-themed music is always cool with me.

I'm more traditional fantasy, but there seems to be a demand for pirates and cowboys stuff lately.

Maybe you could provide the sound part for those themes?

More battle themes would be good, but I wonder if it might be possible to have some of them that were a bit more 'dark'?  Generally speaking (obviously with some exceptions) battle music goes at something of a pace, is meant to get adrenaline going, that sort of thing.  But one thing they tend not to be is menacing.  Can't think of a better word than that.  Perhaps sinister also catches something of what I mean.

Uh, tough one. I already have some of the music packs (mostly the traditional stuff, no sci-fi). I especially buy those that also have Soundeffects and Musical Events. I don't know, I can't get enough of them. :D

What I would buy and I don't think is already present in the music section:

- Exotic Music, meaning Oriental/Asian Music, something that you can use for those far away places.

- More Wild West or Pirate music, but I'm just a fan of those

- Town/Village Music, music specially tailored for towns/cities etc., could just be a small pack, for taverns, an inn, church, equipment shop, nightlife, marketplace etc.

I tend to buy the bigger packs, but it really depends on the preview soundtracks. If there is even one song in there that I love, I want to have it. Add some soundeffects or musical events ;)

I'd add any battle music should be looped.  I love Gyrowolf's songs as well, but because the battle themes aren't looped, they don't work well for longer battles.

I think sci-fi battle music would be good.

I really love the tribal sound in Terra Incognito. I especially love Encounter in the Frozen North, The Sun and the Eagle (both in my IGMC game), as well as Wold Tribe.

I love the idea of Pirate themed music as well, maybe some Caribbean inspired songs for towns and villages.

Sound effects (still in dire need for variety), town and events.

It would be nice to have a pack not focused on epic songs and more focused on towns, standard events (like sad themes).

And we seriously need more sound/musical effects.

More sound effects, and more battle themes. Maybe even an entire pack of nothing but 20 battle themes. If you made that, I'd be lining up to buy it on day one.

I would  have to go with battle themes. I have a lot of battle themes from various artists but I have yet to hear one that sticks. Instead of trying to come up with a central theme for them, you can probably try mixing to suit everyone. have some music that suits western, fantasy, sci-fi, and all sorts of people. I personally like the Ys sounding themes (because nearly the whole soundtrack is a battle theme).

As for the amount, I would say do what works best for you. :)

Battle themes seem to be popular and I certainly like the idea of doing them (though they sure aren't easy!).

If I were to do that, would this format be good?

Cinematic (Standard hollywood style)

Electronic (Sci-fi, techno, trance, drum & bass, dubstep etc)

Retro (8 bit, 16-bit, up to playstation era emulations)

Modern (Metal, Rock, Jazz)

Miscellaneous (Cowboy, Steampunk, Electro-acoustic, World)

5 tracks each

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of modern sounding music in my fantasy games (just my personal taste), I would prefer cinematic only for battles, but then again I'm not the target group for battle music ;)

Although I think, your list has something for everyone,  I don't know, how well such mixed genre music packs sell.

What category would something like this fall into? xD

Modern, it's kind of a catch all theme like miscellaneous though more for tracks reminiscent of modern(ish) jrpgs like Ys, Persona, Xeneblade Chronicles and the like.

Well my dungeon music pack is pretty mixed and it's been doing well so I'm sure it'll be appreciated more for battle themes since they're a bit more adaptable by nature anyways.

If you make some battle themes like Xenoblade chronicles battle themes, I will start throwing money at the screen right now.

(still hoping for some more sound and musical effects  ;_;  )

Edit: or one reminiscent to this theme (Which will make me throw twice as much money at the screen along with start a religion that will pray to you as a god using praise the sun gestures).

Sound effects would be cool but I'm sure there are plenty of sites with free sound effects. A good one is freesound.org

It would be cool to have smaller packs with different themes. 10 songs per each theme, such as Pirates, Celtics, sci-fi and so on. That way the pack would be cheaper and people would buy only those which they are more interested in, and would suit their games. :D It would be cool to get a poll to see what people want the most as well. I don't make games that much so I have no idea what to suggest for the themes. :|

Good idea? Bad? Yes? No? Maybe? So?  ...

I've seen a lot of dungeon/battle music lately, overall, daunting bad assery; which is fantastic. But maybe some more town themes and cutscene/event centric pieces are needed! Get into the softer more relaxed (or still bad ass) side of the games. The packs could either be a collection of different styles, to give everyone a mixer, or you could even break it down into smaller packs, modern towns, fantasy towns, foreign/world towns; you get it!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
