I am making a fantasy RPG something akin to Breath of Fire and Suikoden. Now, I'd like MEs. I would like one, particularly for character recruitment. Short. Magical. Strings if possible. If you have played Suikoden, you know that when you recruit a character, a short ME plays. It sounds like strings. Another ME that is very similar is the one played at the ends of Breath of Fire IV battles when using the Emperor. Both are very short fanfares. Can someone point one out for me? I posted a very specific sample from one of the mentioned above.

Hm. Have you tried Google? I'm sure there's a ton of free sound effects out there.

Hello. Yes! I spend half of my day looking for sounds. All I stumble upon are BGMs... I don't want BGMs. I have many of those. I have also been to those sites that specialize in sounds, but so far I've found birds. (which I needed)

BGM's are also ME's. All an ME is, is a sound file that only plays once and stops. So any BGM can be used as an ME.

I am not very good at editing sounds. I need something short. 4 to 6 seconds. No more than that. A whole track is useless for this purpose.

I figured that. Just note though that they are stored as the same file type though, so that will factor in when searching, as few know that we call them ME's.

BGM - play loop-ly
ME - play once (like shocking string effect of shock)

Like the ones I embedded above. That's what I'd like, shocking strings of happiness or celebration that play once.

This will take 10-15 minutes maximum to master, but if you're spending hours looking, then this is a time saver. If you have a track (or can find one where the terms of service allow you to edit it) that has the sort of effect somewhere in it that you want, try the following.

If you haven't already got it, download Audacity - free software.
Open the track that has the element you want.
Listen to it and note on the seconds counter where it is.
Copy that section (Ctrl + C)
Ctrl + N for a new track
Ctrl + V to paste in the bit from the original track
You now have the ME. You might have to tweak it a bit e.g. there is an Effect which allows you to fade out.
Play around with it until you are satisfied.

Remember to credit the composer of the original.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
