Hi there, I am planning on getting either MV or MZ today and I was just wondering which one I should get and why. If you could help me that would be great.

Well, in principle, there is not much difference. MZ has a lot of functionality (although everything new in it can literally be counted on the fingers). On the other hand, there are just a ton of plugins for MV, pretty much surpassing the number of plugins for MZ. Difficult question, but probably better to use MZ due to its support from KADOKAWA (Until they create a new RPG Maker). And also about support for new Mac os.

A very important point is that MV has lots of free plugins which are not obfuscated, meaning that you could learn to make your own plugins easier in the future, or even modify already existing ones. Compatibility from other plugins is also higher most of the cases exactly because of this.
Another point would be that multiple (new) MZ plugins have been also released to MV too from what I've seen lately.

MZ is the newer tech. It's 64 bit which is more future proof as evidenced by the newer Mac OS no longer supporting MV because it's only 32 bit. MZ is also faster. MV can be made faster as well IF you want to do a custom setup with a newer version of pixi.js. A LOT of plugins have been ported to MZ so the difference isn't nearly as great as it was upon release. I only have ONE active project that will be completed in MV and it's also the ONLY one that uses plugins. Everything else is going to MZ. An awful lot can be done just in the event system without relying on plugins and you can always drop in some inline javascript in an event and MZ has the advantage there as you can drop in much larger segments of code that way.
Actually the whole reason I'm using the plugins in MV that I am is due to the interesting threads last year that got shut down due to arguments over obfuscation. Feel free to do some searches to find out why the obfuscation happened and why the threads got locked.......

If you have neither of them, MZ is the best choice by default, but MV is an excellent budget alternative.
You can try them by yourself using the trial to see if MZ improvement's are worth something to you.

I have notice that the pictures are not blinking anymore using MZ.
For example:
show picture 1
wait 4 frames
show picture 2
wait 4 frames
show picture 3
wait 4 frames

These things happened in mv.
The same when you change character graphic fast.

The engine thing has been brought up so many times, I'd honestly just use the search function in the forums and see some of the other threads that have been posted about this.

MZ because my advent calendar this year is for MZ :p

But really, I always suggest MZ because you can use SumRndmDude's HUD Maker Ultra with it, which fundamentally changes what you can do with the engine (it's both easy to use and extremely powerful).

Tl;dr: if you are new, get MZ.
Or download the trial and see what you like. Sale is next week.

MZ has the newest features & therefore the least amount of limitations. Although the plugin library for MZ is smaller than MV's (because many MV plugins aren't compatible with MZ), there's a plugin for MZ called Fossil that makes MV plugins compatible with MZ, so you get the best of both worlds.

However, it doesn't magically make everything compatible so if a MV plugin still doesn't work with it, just let @Restart know & he might be able to make it compatible (if he isn't slogged with list of backlogged plugin requests).

Also, any graphical or audio assets made for MV are compatible with MZ, such as DLC content from this site.

If by chance you're making a Tactical RPG, you pretty much have to use MV since LeTBS & SRPG plugins are MV only. That's been my experience anyway.

Honestly there's not much difference between the versions as far as easier goes. Any older version of RPG Maker tends to have the advantage of cheaper sale prices though.... :)

Lunesis has started a trend of doing homages to me by putting a trilobite fossil in your game somewhere and I have to say I love this and encourage everyone who wants to credit me to do it too. XD
Made a plugin that allows you to randomly transmute items into other items weeeeeeee
Rebuilding isn't going terribly so far. I caught some things that I was definitely overcomplicating in the original project. Here's to hoping the plugins play nice when testing starts.
Praise be to the making of the games.
I might be getting engaged. If she says yes, I'll make the Super Mighty Pack.
