Hey everybody,

I've been lurking around the community for a little while now, but other than a few edits here and there, I have yet to make any real contribution of my own. I've always had a passion for art, but never really tried my hand digitally until I came here. I have been so overwhelmed by the generosity and good nature of this community, and there are so many amazing artists present that I've come to emulate and admire for their talent. @Avery, @PandaMaru, @GrandmaDeb,and @Celianna, just to name a few. I've been learning so much about this new art form, and I'm excited to finally release something that I'm relatively happy with. I know it needs some tweaking, and any advice is ALWAYS welcome, but here is my first contribution to this community: an MV Ship Tileset.

I noticed that Avery recently released her own ship, which is amazing, by the way! After that, I had honestly considered letting this project go. I realized, however, that months of work would be wasted. You see, while I've just acquired my first tablet, I haven't quite figured out the settings yet, and so ALL of this has been painstakingly completed with a mouse and a zoom feature. -_-

Anyway, I've yacked long enough. Here are the terms of use:

Non-Commercial: Yes, always. Take this and do with it as you will. Edit it, make it better, make it worse! As long as it is all in good fun, have a blast.

Commercial: A commercial licence is available for those who decide this is something they would like to feature in their commercial project. I wouldn't charge, but the amount of time I've put into this is borderline nutty. A guy has to eat, right? Please contact me if you would like to discuss. This is necessary for any alterations made to the original set, as well, when being used commercially.

Credit:  Please credit Gabrelik wherever it might be necessary, and please do not repost without linking back to this thread. While made with RPG Maker MV in mind, this tileset is completely original material and uses none of the RTP. It can therefore be used anywhere without having to own a particular Maker license.

Regarding the tiles: I was able to make this screenshot without any use of parallax mapping and set everything up on my "D" sheet. The only issues I had with this were some passability problems near the bow with the slanted railing, and I had to add the single deck and hull tiles into my "A" sheet. Everything worked out really well, so it should be fine either way. Also, I've set these up to be diverse, so you aren't limited to just the size I've shown below. Your ship can be as big as you like!

Now, I know there a lot of blanks and this is only one sheet. While I hope to eventually expand upon this set to give you a complete front/back view, internals, etc, this is currently where we are, and it has taken awhile! I will definitely add to it as I can with supplementals like buckets/swabs, fishnets, lifeboat, etc. Maybe even some custom pirate sprites as I learn.

Now, without further ado, here is my first original RPG Maker Community Work: (SO EXCITED!) :D  I hope it serves some of you well. Thank you for being so welcoming and patient with me this past year or so as I've bugged a lot of you incessantly for advice or tips. It's really kept me going.

Was wondering why this looked so familiar to my ship, until i saw my name mentioned haha.

I think it looks great, but really flat. You need some shadows in there! Even if the ship's hull would be darker, that would already help a lot with the depth.

I actually spent a great deal of time on a sail training ship as a boy, the Barba Negra in Savannah. And yes, your work is an inspiration! I love old Barquentines and a ship seemed like a great project to start on. I will definitely go in and add some shadow. Thanks for the advice! :)

Celianna gives good advice! =]

So, I have to admit that I am glad to be loved (despite my near invisibility for the last nine months) but there is no way I am in a class of artists like Celianna, PandaMaru and Avery.

I make good lists (when I finish them! Windows 10 killed my laptop and I have to decide whether to replace or .... you get it.) But I am not really artistic.

@GrandmaDeb, you don't give yourself enough credit. Rough about the laptop! I'm using an older ASUS, myself. Should definitely upgrade. Still figuring out everything I'm going to need, and planning to put out a whole lot more in the near future. I almost have more fun making resources than working on my projects! :)

I have a working cannon animation set you could easily use with this xP. You can even edit it to match those cannons as well. The alignments are perfect for firing and recoil effects too. (My cannons were originally made to go with a collab ship tileset I helped make which is quite similar to that ship so everything should match up.)

That's awesome! Would love to see that in action.

20SEP16: Added some cannon balls, coiled line, and a water bucket. :)

I have 2 pc's, stationary, the newest has the Nvidia GTX1080 state of the art graphics card and the Skylake flagship processor from Intel, I use this for graphic, animation and videowork, and my gamingneeds; and one other pc with a Intel quadcore i7 processor only for music-recording. I would never ever waste money on a laptop, because they are no good for serious work, and can't be easily fixed! But sure are handy if you travel =)

Added some new items to the tileset. :)

@Ursa Koda,

Someday I'll have money for all of the cool toys I want. Right now, I'd settle for a good tablet. Or maybe photoshop! (Doing everything in GIMP at the moment.)

Thanks! Just added a lifeboat to go with the set. I'll probably start working on a grotto for this in the near future. :)

Money is a pain, when you don't have it and really need it!

Is it ok i say something about photoshop?

It is a good program, but grossly overrated in my view. Gimp is also a good program, I did get it for myself, but it took forever to load in, even on a supermachine.

After clicking wrong icon a few times and going OMG when i see the GIMP loading in, I deleted it.

I use photoshop for EASY work, because even after using it for years, I am still not loving it. I find it contains too much menus and options.

I like simple ^^. Now I mostly use Xara designer pro, I have used it since version 1, now they are on 12 i think, and it is absolute genius for vector art, and easy work on pics.

For the people that actually like photoshop and can use it with skills, I think it must be good, I have not the mind for using it well, me and Adobe never was compatible.

It is just bad they overprice it, I hope you get the money for photoshop so you can do some great art with a program you like.

Have you tried ASEPRITE ?? If you want to do pixel art, pixel by pixel; you should check it out. For sprites and such.

Is free like GIMP.

I've gotten fairly used to GIMP and I'm happy with it so far. Mostly just need to get familiar with all of the options. Definitely works great on a budget!

When ever I put 2 tiles in the same place it shows the background. How can I evade that?

MV only allows for so many layers by default, but two shouldn't be causing an issue. Can you post a screenshot?

Yes, you'll have to arrange your tiles in a way to get around the layer limitations. You can set the deck tile into your "A" sheet and layer over that, which will solve the gap. This would be true of any tileset, however, as MV doesn't allow more than a few layers by default. This is a very old set, and there have been several plugins to come out since that may be helpful if you wanted to go that route. Doodads may also be an option.
