I'm working on a couple of different projects. I'm pretty clear on most of the game mechanics part of MV, but when it comes to the part about graphics and how they are handled, I'm all but lost! I want to use different sprite (such as the Storyteller sprite sheets) but I am unsure how to proceed.

People are always posting sprite sheets or other resources that make changes to the body style of characters, but I've not been able to find anything that actually explains how to go about "installing" them into MV, or a game. Half the documents I find on the web are in Japanese or the author seems to assume that the user knows something that I've apparently missed. Tutorials all seem to talk about how to create a sheet, but nothing about what to do with it after that. (I don't want my characters running around naked ALL the time LOL) So, I have a number of questions.

1. Is it possible to use the generator with the taller sprites or would that mean I'd have to modify character sheets to do things like put clothes on them or change their eye color and give them hair?

2. If I have spritesheets, such as the ones here Storyteller Sprites - Where do I put them so that the game will use them?

3. What do SV, TV, TVD stand for, and what's the Variation folder for?

4. What's the naming convention for files in the Generator and can anybody recommend a tool that might automatically import files into it so I don't get screwed up on the numbering?

5. Is there a definitive guide on these things somewhere and I've just not seen it? If so, where is it?

This explains how to format sprites, including those of not standard size, as well as how to name them. https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/sprite-sheet-formats-and.63612/

Sprite sheets go in the img>characters folder.

SV - Side View
TV - Top (Topdown?) View
TVD - Top View Damage

I’m not sure on the variation folder.

There are tutorials on how to install and name generator pieces. Here is one, there are also plenty of video tutorials. https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/rpg-maker-mv-character-generator-tutorial.64412/

1. No. The default generator only works for chibi sprites. If you're using bigger sprites you'll have to edit them manually in an image editing program. (I use GIMP. It's free and works perfectly fine for editing RM resources.) There are also a few community made character generators here on the forums, but I've never used one and can't speak to how they function.

2. Once you have your pretty, completed spritesheet, you can import the file through the Resource Manager in RPG Maker or you can manually drop the spritesheet into the Character folder in your Project folder. You can get to the project folder easily by hitting the Game option in the editor menu bar and selecting Open Folder then navigate to >img>characters and paste the file in there.

Be sure the file is named correctly aswell. Here's a thread that talks about how sprite sheets are interpreted by MV: Sprite Sheet Formats and $/!

3. SV = Side view
TV = Walking sprite
TVD = Downed/Dead sprite
Variation = is for the graphic that displays in the selection window of the editor.

4. and 5. This video explains most, if not all, of that. RPG Maker MV Tutorial: Mod The Character Generator!

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
