MV won't open, it says loading, shows the splash, then closes. No tab or anything.

Just to clarify, this is when opening the program itself only right? Not when attempting to playtest or open a specific project?

When i attempt to open the program in any way, from any project or the basic .EXE in the install folder.
I'm looking at the crash in Event Viewer and it says it's an application error, but I'm not sure what could be causing it all of a sudden.

Weird, idk why they wouldn't have the latest version.

I attempted to install my Steam Copy, and no dice, it says stop for a couple seconds then just says play again.

And the steam version is updated to 1.6.2 and doesn't open?

Another thing I'd try, since you have it directly on your C drive, is to put it into a folder not directly in that location, like program files in C, sometimes putting programs in the root folder can cause issue.

I only put it in the C folder hoping taking it out of Program Files would somehow fix the issue.
And yes, apparently Steam has a different version, but the error message otherwise appears to be the same?

Have you restarted your computer since reinstalling rpg maker? Have you tried disabling any virus protection you have when starting it to see if that's the problem? Are any games affected?

I've restarted like 30 times, I've made sure antivirus is off, and I've even checked the quarantine and threat history logs just in case. Nothing.

Do you mean like other games? Cause stuff like League, the Tales Series, etc, whether Steam or not, all work just fine for me.
Honestly at this point I'm considering just backing up all my project files and doing a fresh install of Windows.

Do you know where exactly it is stored on your computer?

The editor has problems if the project is in a cloudsync'ed folder. That should not cause such a problem, but currently we are searching for anything that might cause problems.

If the last project is in a cloudsync'ed folder, then please move it away from there.
if that was the cause then the editor would not find the project after it is moved away and not try to load it.

The last project I worked on was my main project which is stored in the default Games folder in Documents.
I also tried to load up other project files, which I believe would cause it to load the game in those folders?
Currently, the 'game' .exes don't even register as being usable by MV, since fresh installs haven't gotten to the point that the system recognizes it as being to open the file type.

There's no difference. 1.6.2 didn't make any changes except for in the Japanese version for exporting to some Japanese Web sites.

I had this issue once. I'm not sure this will help, as I have no idea what actually ever fixed the issue:

I made the program a trusted one by all my anti-virus software.
I moved my folders around so that it wouldn't try to auto-open my latest project and could get it to load to the "no project" state to see if that fixed the issue (it would load the program, but no project, so the issue was somewhere in loading the project itself, to my guesswork).
I could create a new project and save it, but trying to reload the project automatically always crashed the program at splash screen.
I installed the program from this website to see if it was a difference in "version". No dice, same issues.
I uninstalled from Steam and reinstalled. No dice.
2 Windows 10 updates later anad 1 Steam Update later of RPG Maker and... it worked.

My guess was it had something to do with the program itself being incompatible in some way and whatever had made it broken had been patched out by the update.

Also since you censored your userfolder, please make sure it contains only latin letters and no special symbols.

My user folder is literally just my initials + my last name, nothing but plain english letters.

And I've been meaning to change the folder name anyway since it's not really 'Final Fantasy' anymore because copyright isn't something I wanna **** with.

Is there anything else you can think to try?

I even tried systematically ending every background process and trying to open MV each time and it didn't work.

So I use MV on my PC and also on my notebook which also has the geforce ready.
On my notebook it is happening exactly the same you are reporting . I think maybe you'll need to use an older version, it has something to do with some new update that it had which is affecting just some systems.

The notebook is an Acer that has windows 10, nvidia 1050ti, there is something that is happening on that hardware specifically.
