It was working fine on Friday but I tried today and I get the loading screen and then it just stops. I click again in steam and the same thing happens. I tried switching to other versions(1.6.1, 1.5.2, 1.5.1) and the same thing happens. I tried rebooting and doing it again but to no avail. Is it because of a windows update or something? Anybody else having this problem or is it just me?

@Dreadshadow Those instructions mention opening a new project and copying the files. I can't open the engine to make a new project or disable plugins though. It simply won't open.

Here is the Steam info:
Steam-Picture.png

I also tried to open it by clicking my project file. It opens the loading screen but then quickly stops.

if that happens even if you change the version in steam, then there are not many possible causes left.

Most probably your steam download cache is damaged, because when that happens (usually one or two times a year), you can't change versions or repair programs anymore - in such a case steam claims to have completed the operations while in reality nothing changes.
Search steam help for how to clear the steam download cache, then deinstall and reinstall MV.

If that doesn't help then one of your background programs is blocking the program - you need to find out which one and then tell it that it should allow MV to start.
False positives from antivirus are rather common for MV because it uses HTML-technology on local files, but it could also be a parental guidance program or a network restriction program or something like that.

@Andar I cleared Steams cache and reinstalled it and it still doesn't work. I've only got windows defender on here but there was a recent windows update. Looking for how to disable windows defender and it's suppose to warn me if there's a threat. I'm not getting any warnings though.

Do you use Windows 10? If so I had a lot of issues getting things to work with the 1809 update, and had to roll back to 1803, as the 1809 update disabled and deleted my drivers.

@bgillisp Yeah I'm using windows 10. Is it possible to go back to 1803? I've just got the Home edition. There was an update a few days ago and since nothing else changed I'm thinking it could be that.

I had to do it by going to system restore (I think it's system -> Security -> System Restore), but it should be doable. Try that and see if it lets you roll back to a date back when you know MV was working.

However, Windows will keep trying to force that update on you, FYI. You might have some luck by telling it your internet is metered even if it isn't. Otherwise I heard people have installed 3rd party software to block updates for Home. As for how reliable those are and if they work, no clue.

Though before going that far, I'd pull up the device manager and seeing if all devices are working. For me they weren't, I had a couple that were with errors and it said no driver available when I tried to have it find one. But if that is not it, then maybe see if you can install a different graphics or sound driver?

Ugh... Windows... How do they continue to screw everything up? Doing this system restore will erase all of my files right? It'll be like starting windows brand new again? I guess I'll have to pick up some external storage to keep my files.

If it works like mine, it only goes back to how it was on that date, and you should keep all files that are not in the windows directory just fine. My documents could be affected though, and any programs you installed over the weekend.

Still, try the driver idea first, as it is easier and faster if it works.

Some of my drivers say
No drivers are installed for this device.
Don't know if that's suppose to happen. The others say
This device is working properly.

The ones that say they don't have drivers also say I have the best driver when I try to update them.

These are the ones with the No drivers are installed for this device message:
System Devices
-High Precision Event Timer
-Legacy Device
-Mobile Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PMC - 9D21
-Mobile Intel(R) Processor Family I/O SMBUS - 9D23
-Programmable Interrupt Controller
-System Timer

@FleshToDust do NOT use the automatic driver update from windows. That prefers to use microsoft-programmed drivers and that is a bad idea for a lot of reasons (including that MV uses OpenGL and not the Microsoft DirectX).

Check the name of the manufacturer of a device, then go to that homepage and look for the correct drivers there.
Only use Microsoft drivers if the true manufacturer has no driver available.
Especially for the video and audio drivers you should run the setups downloaded from the manufacturers page...

So... I reinstalled windows, updated drivers and reinstalled Steam and MV as well as added an exclusion to Steam so Windows Defender shouldn't prevent any folders in Steam(MV) from starting but it still doesn't work.

@FleshToDust how did you "update" your drivers?
Especially if you reinstalled windows there should be no need to update them after you installed them.

Do NOT use "windows automatic driver update" - that is what causes those driver problems.
You need to download the driver setup from the display card manufacturer and install that to get the correct display drivers.
And if you reinstalled windows, the first driver that needs to be checked (and installed if it exists) is the chipset driver for your mainboard. Always check if your mainboard chipset has dedicated drivers and install them first unless the board is designed to work on the microsoft default drivers.
Because a dedicated chipset driver means that the manufacturer programmed this driver because the default drivers will only pretend to work at full speed and with the correct settings...

I did check the windows automatic driver update but only needed to update 3 sound drivers that way. Everything else said I had the most current drivers. I also updated my graphics driver through the Geforce Experience that comes with the computer. From my understanding the only indicator that the graphics driver is a problem is if you get a white screen. I don't have a white screen.

I've done it before reinstalling windows but I'll check the Acer website again for any drivers that may be missing and see if that helps. Other than that I don't know what else to do.

I am running into the same issue. RMMV doesn't load up in the Windows Steam version for the past 4 months for me. I have tried everything obvious that has been commented on this forum before. Still... no success.
It is still working on Ubuntu, though.
The problem is that we are on a commercial project for the past 2 years and this issue is delaying our development. Also, Ubuntu version cannot deploy any projects.
My hands are tied right now. I see there are more people commenting about this problem recently. Please, fix this. I am about to reformat my entire OS to solve this, what would delay even more other projects on course. That means... more time loss... more money loss.
Please, help to investigate this issue.

Ugh-I HATE this! There's construction going on in my area and because of that my Internet connection is wonky; this site in particular keeps constantly freezing up on me; I can't even barely type a single sentence without the page freezing in the middle of it! I hope this changes soon.
