Hey all.
I'm new to game development but have had many ideas burning for years now. I earned qualifications in Film and Television production and for a while I thought I was going to be a director but wound up being an artist for 12 years.
I've been thinking about creating a game for a while but wasn't sure how to go about it as I can't seem to wrap my head around code. I've tried various game engines but found none to suit my way of thinking.
I'm hoping RPG maker will suit me better as it seems to be geared more around the limits of your creativity rather than the mathematical.
Thank you for putting your tutorials out there.

RPG maker should suit you perfectly, since you sound like you just want to see your ideas come to life. Some of your TV and film knowledge should be applicable in game development, too. You'll probably pick up some basic JS knowledge as you go along, but learning JS is by no means a must.

I hope you enjoy your time here. There's plenty of genuinely nice people in this community, so I'm sure you'll make friends. :)

Nice to have you with us. I hope to hear about some of your game ideas in the future.

Hi :)

In a way every game making software is mathematically oriented or has mathematical limits. The reason for that is simple. You can't create a 100% intuitive software, because no programming language in the world and no computer has the ability to read your mind or intuitively understand what you want to do. Which is why every game making software has its own sets of commands, which define its ease to use and power. And I've gotten through many of them. I have tried some Unity, I tried some Game maker back in times when scripts were impossible inside it, Game creator studio (useless), Adventure maker, RPG makers from 95 to MV, some software made in Turbo Pascal for making DOS games,... And some more I can't remember anymore. All these programs have their own focus, capabilities and stuff. Adventure maker was limited only on static picture adventures. RPG maker is oriented towards JRPGs. Although you can create lots of different genres of games in it. Unity is very flexible, but pretty hard to use. And back then Game maker was way less powerful than nowadays' Game maker 2. However, it was much easier to create a platformer there than in RPG maker. Because the commands were much more streamlined.
However, just like in music, drawing and whatever, it's all about exploring the limits. And in game making when you overcome your current mathematical limits, you'll be able to create much more than ever before. It just takes 3 P: Practice, Patience and Perseverance.

Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm just starting into this field myself but man is it great. Even if I can only put a few hours into it a day it's pretty worth it.

Keep on lurking! Or don't idk.

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
