My Monster, My Disease
My Monster, My Disease tells the tale of a guy living with the struggles of mental health, taking place in our current, modern world. It's a story that's inspired by my own personal life and experiences (though highly embellished), presented through an RPG game. I'd say the game is somewhere between an RPG and a Visual Novel - It is heavily story-based, meaning there's lots of text and minimal gameplay.
(There will, however, be a lot more RPG elements in the final version, such as: Quests, combat, a skill system, etc.)
VERY IMPORTANT:
The game deals with heavy topics, such as: Mental health, depression, self-harm, etc. If you are sensitive to such topics, please take into account that the game's story might be triggering!
I made little use of resources and plugins outside the RTP, with 99% of my effort focused on the story and its presentation, rather than original graphics/gameplay/sounds/art/etc. I'm hoping the story can make up for the shortage of non-RTP content, for now at least
My Monster, My Disease takes inspiration from many games, but mostly from Undertale, in the sense that there's a lot of comedy and lightheartedness, but also a very deep and dark story.
Danganronpa, too, has sprinkled some inspiration into my game
My Monster, My Disease is essentially a draft, or a prototype, of a much bigger game I'm hoping to make in the future; this time, with 100% original content and no RTP.
STORY
My Monster, My Disease is a story-heavy game that follows a mental health patient: A snarky, funny, and fun-loving guy named Oliver.
In the past, all aspects of Oliver's life have been negatively affected by his mental disease. To name only a few examples:
- He suffered a rough relationship with his parents his whole childhood, up to early adulthood.
- He never dated anyone.
But today, it's Oliver's dad's birthday, and he decided to come forward with a gesture of reconciliation with his parents: Oliver is going to prepare a huge birthday party for his dad. One of the party's attendees is going to be... Oliver's first ever girlfriend, Zoe. He's been dating her long-distance for a while now, and they arranged for her to fly over to him on the same day as his dad's birthday. On top of all this, Oliver has been hyping everyone up with a huge surprise he's been preparing for the people in his life.
At long last, things seem to finally be going well for Oliver. His life is finally getting on the right track. How will everything play out? How will the birthday party go? What surprise does he have in store for everyone?
Follow the story of Oliver and the people closest to him: His parents, his best friend Lucas, his girlfriend Zoe, his mental-health therapist Maya... and find out what happens.
His monster, his disease, his troubled past... Where do they fit into the equation, and will they affect the birthday party's outcome? Just what kind of "monster" has Oliver been struggling with his whole life?

Also: Epilepsy warning! While rare, the game does have parts with flashing lights and whatnot. Please beware.
