So here's my idea. There's a Smith, Enchanter, and Alchemist in every city. While on your journey you can collect different material from enemy drops, chest, or simply finding in the wild. Herbs are used for potion making. Ores are used for smithing. And Crystal shards are used for enchanting. Say a certain potion you want is too extensive at a shop, if you have enough of the required herbs you can take them to an Alchemist (and pay a very small fee) and they will combine them into a potion. Different materials produce different items.

So I'm not sure how this would be made in script. I guess i would make it the same way as creating a shopkeeper but I'm not sure how to include the herbs along with the gold.

Pretty sure this script can do what you are trying to do and a bit more: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/17560-crafting-script-v37-updated-10272014/

It includes gold costs as different types of crafting with level support and add-ons.

Having a crafting alternative to purchasing items is something I found interesting, though it does pose some problems, such as if the shop is too expensive, why not just go around and use the crafting systems exclusively? If the materials are too hard to get, why not just grind for currency? This could be somewhat solved by giving some craft exclusive or shop exclusive items, but the idea of an alternative way to get something with less effort may mean the utter abandonment of one of the methods by the player.

There are a lot of crafting scripts out there, to the point where you could Google "VX Ace Crafting Script" and probably get 10-20 good ones.

In general I've found this to be a pretty useless feature in games though.  Most people don't want to go through extra steps to craft a mid-level potion that they can buy at the store for 200 gold.  If there's some element of chance or discovery in the system it can make t feel worthwhile; having it be an uncommon activity that you use to make powerful, rare, or otherwise-unobtainable items can justify its existence in your game as well.

agree with this... how about the mid level potion sold have determined quality... while when created using crafting it depend on the raw material quality and crafter skill level. so when you have crafter with high skill level. even poor raw quality material can transform to a little bit better than potion sold at shop.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
