PROJECT INFO
Naima's Melody is being developed in RPG Maker MV by myself and @bazrat. The game has been in development for 4 months so far and features a ton of custom resources and scripts. We are very passionate about this project and especially excited to develop something that most believe is too difficult if not impossible in RPG Maker. Special shoutout to @chaucer as well, who has provided a lot of support with this game. (Thanks mate!)

Please download our Pre-Alpha demo and tell us what you think!

If you like what you see here please follow our game studio's twitter to keep updated on the development progress:

This project looks very promissing. The combat looks good, is it pixel based or tile based? The interface and animations are nice too.

The game so far looks amazing! I love the variety of biomes and how lively the areas look with the incorporation of NPCs

I'm happy to be part of this ^^

See ya!

This is looking great, your team accomplished a lot in a short period of time. This project is looking very ambitious! I like the idea of horseback riding, I'd be interested to see how you implement this into your game. I imagine there might be more open areas to explore on horseback, but might not be allowed into tight towns or caves.

One criticism regarding the sword combat in the skeleton test video; I think the combat looks a little rough. It's difficult to tell when the player is making contact with the enemy, or if they're even doing damage. There wasn't much sense of visual or auditory feedback. I think it needs a nice chunky hit sound effect and a flash when you do damage to the enemy. If his shield is deflecting the player's hit, I'd expect a metallic banging noise and a spark animation to indicate my attack was blocked. I know it's still early in development, but these are core game-play mechanics you'll want to hammer out early on before you start ramping up the # of features.

I'll be looking forward to future updates, keep up the great work!

Thanks, we sure have been working hard on this project. One of my strongest memories as a kid playing Zelda had been riding around the world on my horse, so I wanted to find some way to recapture that feeling. Thus the idea to introduce horseback riding into our game was born.

And thank you for the feedback. The combat is actually more fleshed out currently than in that video. I can assure you combat is one of our biggest focuses and we've spent months of work into making the core system feel great before focusing on other things. Here is the latest updated combat of the same skeleton warrior:

and a quick snippet as well:

Hey there,

Game Designer here. I've worked at 3 studios so far. Let me know if you would like some free help on the level design. I want to get more experience on LD in my spare time and could devote several hours a week to this if you are interested.

I look forward to playing your game!

Small Update today:

I wanted to announce that we have officially brought onboard @WilsonScarloxy to the Naima's Melody development team.
Wilson is a super talented pixel artist and we are happy to be working with him!

Check out these new enemy death animations he created:

Very nice animation, that's the kind of thing that improves the game experience overall.

That looks freaking sick @definite_lee

What Plugin are you using for the combat? Or is it one of your own making?

We are using heavily modified versions of Galv's Projectiles and Altimit Pixel movement for the core of the gameplay, with a lot of eventing done by @bazrat to tie everything together.

Well, now all of my Refreshable Events scripts also feature some brand new demos to let people see how easy it is to let the script handle the refreshing of a given set of events. All of this with just one specific script call per event!
Sorry Kitty...I'm practicing my harmonics. RIP your ears.
I noticed they now have a Gremlins cartoon. Nothing like striking when the iron is hot then trying to make a reboot from a movie made 34 years ago.
Up to 40,000,000 people just became felons by bureaucratic decree today in the US. If you own certain configurations of plastic and velcro, best make sure you aren't risking 10 years behind bars. Just had to take back my mom's mothers day gift from three years ago. Fun times, thanks unelected bureaucrats.
