Same here. My issue with dubs is that they're absolutely horrendous (I'm referring to French dubs, there) except for Japanese/French productions, like The Mysterious Golden Cities or Ulysses 31. As for English dubs, well, I'd need subs as well to really understand so there's little point lol.I read fast enough that I don't even notice. I forget I'm reading the subs at times and never seem to miss any of the animation.
As for the main topic, Naruto definitely suffers from the inherent problem with anime adaptations of long-runners; that is, unless you change completely the scenario (like the first FMA anime), you can only pad the entire thing with filler. That being said, the manga itself does have its share of flaws, notably when the author's favorite characters (read: the Uchihas) are concerned: abilities conveniently "awakening" just at the right moment, consistent breaking of the rules set by the verse, and disproportionate reactions to admittedly sad (though justified in some cases) events happening in their lives.
Now, the target audience is primarily adolescent boys so if they're after action with "cool" characters Naruto does the job. But it does no more than that.
